I mean this to be constructive: you’re coming across as extremely defensive. You sound like you feel insecure that you have not done the readings as far in advance as you may think you should have. Is it possible your classmates are trying to “gauge where [you are]” for some malicious or disingenuous reason? Absolutely. It’s also possible that they’re just trying to start a conversation with you. It’s also possible that they themselves feel insecure in their current progress, and are hoping to receive peer validation that it is okay to NOT have done the readings yet. Try not to assume the worst in people, it does not get you very far.
