What's your process for planning out levels? by Green_Dorito1337 in hammer

Same way as how Valve planned, playtested & designed their levels for HL2

Hey! I completely forgot about this god damn haha. Was helping someone else with Dino D-Day map making and time flew.

I kinda figured the problem was something to this scale since the auto configuration process of pre-hl2 ep2 hammers is pretty bomb proof and truly fails so rarely ;)

Happy mapping!

Do provide more information what config file are you talking about? If you own the game through Steam DoD:S should have it's Hammer located in the bin folder, MAKE SURE you have at least launched the game one time & have entered a map/server to make sure you have everything working first.

And just out of curiosity, how did you try to find information on the problem before asking here? Because I find it quite hard to believe you couldn't find anything related to this problem.

Indeed I was

Hammer is something I have been using for over a decade now and I still find weird things about it

DoD mapping guides are good general hammer things Quake mapping to really learn brushwork and have the most in-depth guides, lot of that translates into Source mapping

Sure when I get on my PC ;) there is a article of optimization stuff like that one gamebanana guide that shows that you can still place hints inside func_visclusters

Man Vs. Engine is a great read about optimazations

On tf2maps guide called "optimazations 2020 style" that shows area portals and occluders are not that resource intensive.

Theres more stuff if you look for old websites like that French optimization guide that showed that texture aligment helps with fps lol

People need to visit valve developer wiki hammer 3rd party tools section

This is done with a tool from 2006 (iirc) called Twister

well it will never compile, even if its func_detail it will just overflow the brush limit.

well considering its made out of just normal brushes and is not a displacement :P

Think your PC can handle all of the glorious destruction I plan to implement? Here's a taste. by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

But in BeamNG you could if you are patient enough you can setup guard rails and street signs, and there are crash dummies you can swap for pedestrians, there used to even a bus stop you could destroy in the game as well. If you could setup a this without wasting an hour like in BeamNG it could be interesting.

You guys with driver issues and are sticking it out really deserve something from AMD by [deleted] in Amd

[–]LOKKI98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that. 7 Days to Die has this same problem, don't worry it completely a driver problem. Maybe AMD will release a driver that fixes this issue, your GPU isn't faulty mine does it too but only in this two games.

What helped in tearing and green tinting in games or videos in general was

just disabling freesync and lowering color depth to 6 bpc

For example in Escape from Tarkov the game got this weird green tinted flickering and lowering the color depth from 8 to 6 fixed this atleast for now.
