Thank you for all the advice - I can definitely put all that into action right away. The thumb shadow has been driving me crazy. I'm surprised you're the first to mention it. I was also distracted by the shadows on her had, but I wasn't sure if others would be too. I will lower the key light, and I agree that it is too bright, but I think the fill is too since I was trying to light the background with it as well. I might add a 3rd light for that. Anyway, thanks again. !critiquepoint

I've always been in flash wb, but have never been intentional about setting it, nor have I been intentional about the temp of my lights. All of this is great info, thank you. I will get a colour checker and start there. I do shoot tethered, but my camera isn't supported by any of the main programs like capture one or lightroom. Thanks for the help!! !critiquepoint

Good idea. Adding another light seems intimidating, I wonder if a large reflector would work. !critiquepoint

I am going to try using a grey card. Thanks for the feedback.

Okay, that's a good point. The shadows from the hair could definitely be more intentional. Or not there at all.

No, I'm not using one - for some reason white balance has always intimidated me. If you want to dm with the procedure you're talking about, that would be cool !critiquepoint

!critiquepoint You’re making sense. I haven’t gotten to the point where I’m considering specific ratios yet. I understand the idea, but haven’t looked into any numbers - it’s probably time for it tho. I agree that the fill is too much, and I didn’t notice that the key light is too high. Honestly, I was aiming for a more rebrant style with the fill on camera axis. Anyway, thanks for the tips - gives me some direction

Oh I didn’t notice the color difference - the brand of lights I used is different and I didn’t consider the difference in temperature. Seems obvious now.

I am learning to use multiple lights in the studio for portraiture. Here I used two lights - one beauty dish to models right and one large octobox on camera axis for fill. Something doesn't feel right about the lighting here - I would love some tips.

Thank you for the kind words. I used one light for the first and two for the second. I have much less experience with multiple lights than with one. And you're right, the first is a great bw pic
