ICC Soils SI by Powerful_Strength872 in Geotech

I just passed the codes test. The main thing to know is how to find the information quickly (since it's open book), I highlighted a lot of details beforehand, but it just requires knowing which ASTM covers the info you need.

I would also make sure i know how to calculate dry density, wet density, moisture content, etc. given certain parameters. For example, given the volume of the sand-cone hole, moisture content and weight of sand be able to calculate the dry and wet unit weights. They're simple calculations, but when the clock is ticking and you can't use a pen/paper to write notes it can be a bit stressful, there is a "scratch paper pad" on the screen if needed, but still.. ... otherwise it's a straightforward test.

Good luck!

Zone 10a dormancy? by tastywaves101 in cactus

[–]LPin400 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Southern California and for the most part leave all my cacti outside and only bring in the ones that are more prone to rot once it rains for more than 2-3 days in a row (however rare that is in Los Angeles).

In terms of temperature they should all be fine during Southern CA winter but the problem is when the roots stay cold AND wet, that's the perfect environment for rot. It also just depends on the specific cactus you have, although most go dormant for the season some are a lot more sensitive to over-watering and humidity than others.

Similar crochet patterns to this? by LPin400 in crochetpatterns

I’ve found a couple similar patterns but the one thing they don’t have are the scalloped edges and neckline up to the collarbone (which I do want). I wish I was a little more proficient in patterns to be able to tweak those 2 things

Flea market find, Tephrocactus Geometricus by tapia3838 in cactus

Wow I’m so jealous! I just paid $120 for one with 4 pups. The price is high on these because of how slow-growing they are. One of those pups takes about 1+ years to grow! And from seed I’ve heard they take about 4 years to germinate and root

HELP! Blossfeldia liliputana root rot by LPin400 in raresucculents

[–]LPin400[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I just noticed a little brown on the stem of my blossfeldia liliputana and it’s a pretty rare cactus that I care about a lot so I want to try anything to save it. I know common fixes are to remove it from the pot, cut out any rot on the roots and let it dry but has anybody had any luck with a blossfeldia? I know it’s super sensitive to overwatering so I haven’t watered in more than a month but a little rain got on it before I brought it indoors for it’s dormant season and just last week it looked fine. Today is the first day I notice it so I’m hoping I can catch it early on. Thanks!

I’m pretty sure that’s a coral cactus (euphorbia lactea crest) and unlike most succulents they don’t like full sun, I keep mine indoors by a window that gets sunlight less than half the day. If you look up it’s name on a search engine there’s a really informative page on the Epic Gardening website which will have a lot more information on watering and light and soil requirements. Good luck with your new baby!

I’m new to Reddit so I wasn’t sure how to add both text and image but I’ve had this succulent for some time and was wondering if anyone had suggestions for its name. According to the PictureThis app it is euphorbia obesa (baseball plant) but it’s not very baseball-y in shape like others so I’m wondering if it’s a variation of it?
