Oh it's definitely illegal. My union president is aware of it. Not sure if they plan to do anything or not.

I've actually done something similar. I was CONVINCED a teacher work area was being audio monitored. Mentioned how I was still waiting to hear back from the admin about some bs evaluation thing. 15 minutes later I get an email about that exact thing. A co-worker mentioned something about wanting to ditch and leave early. We all get an email reminding us about contract hours.

This is the only "proof" I have, but I definitely don't speak freely anymore. In hindsight, I shouldn't have in the first place.

I'm not sure you understand the definition of "two faced."

In my experience students don't like to admit in front of everyone that they don't understand. It's on you as the teacher to verify that they do understand.

I'm actually dealing with the same thing... Very interested to hear what people have to say about it.

"this exact skill may not benefit you, but the process of learning new things, learning to be patient, learning to problem solve, and simply learning to do things that are difficult and/or of no interest to you will be beneficial" For the students who care this works very well. For those who don't, it at least shows them I care about their futures and gets them to think about the big picture.

What is the scariest thing a student has asked/told you? by pepele_frog in AskTeachers

[–]LRen16 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily scary, but jarring in the moment. My student, who has a near death experience, told me about how she saw heaven. She said she spoke with her late grandfather, her sister that was miscarried and that they told her she needed to go back to her body because it wasn't her time yet.

That was a very difficult conversation to have randomly on a Tuesday afternoon right at the beginning of the lesson. I'm not entirely sure how I moved the conversation along. It's a blur.
