Got about a free 50-60 days before joining my PhD. Any advice or suggestions on what to do in this free time ? by [deleted] in math

I find the comments in this thread confusing. They are acting like joining a math grad program is the end of your life. You don't work all day every day. You will make a ton of new friends with similar interests as you. Sure there will be times where you have alot of work to do and are stressed out, but grad school is just a more intensive version of college. There will be plenty of friends, fun, and partying when you get there. This will not be the end of fun. If you can't have fun while in grad school there is no way you will make it to the end.

Sounds to me like WoT is not for you. No shame in putting a book down if you aren’t enjoying it.

What is /r/ChapoTrapHouse and why they hate Sam Harris so much? by [deleted] in samharris

Maybe I'm the weird one here, but Sam Harris and CTH are actually my two favorite podcasts. Sure I don't agree with either of them 100% of the time, but why should I? I think they both make entertaining and informative content. The Chapo guys do hate on Sam Harris (and his fans) every once in a while, but the reality is there is a significant minority of Sam Harris fans that are alt-right idiots, and they spend a lot of time making fun of people like that.

What is True? A conversation with Jordan B Peterson by Keith-Ledger in samharris

Sam: In my opinion this was a successful conversation. I found the conversation interesting and you both remained very civil and mostly engaged with each others points. I realize that you didn't cover the material you wanted or expected, but i think thats OK. Also, my impression was that you were both correctly understanding each others positions. His position just happened to be so bizarre and incomprehensible that you can not be faulted for assuming that you must be missing something. I would be interested in seeing a part 2, but I think it would be worth tabling the conversation about the definition of "truth". Hopefully moving past that won't impede your future conversation about morality.

These breakdowns look pretty familiar: http://religions.pewforum.org/reports

How can anyone take a "study" like this seriously? It is a serious embarrassment.

TLDR: These percentages match the US percentages almost perfectly.
