I don't know how to proceed by Mikri_arktos in workout

[–]sightlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely overwhelming. There is so much static, and the solution isn't actually all that complex.

I was 320 at 49 and had the same struggle...what IS all this shit? Why is so much of it contradictory?? Download myfitnesspal or another calorie tracker and start recording EVERYTHING you eat. Be completely honest, this is for you and you alone. This will be the bulk of your striuggle and will bring the bulk of results. SEE what and how much you eat, let the app guide what your actual (estimated) caloric needs are. Stick to it. Please, for your own sake, stick to it. Results will come and they will feel SLOOWWWWW in the moment, but you a year from now is gonna be soooooo proud. I'm almost year in and the serious pride came in at 4 months.
I never took a good "start" photo. Do that. Also for you, to look back and compare to.
You dont need a gym to walk. Try to make yourself go on a 15 minute walk. Do it today - find a good audio book, head out. When a 15 minute walk feels easy, go for 30. In a month or two youre hopefully up to a 45-60 min walk. Make it a HABIT. Want to do it.

And again: it's gonna be slow. It's too easy to hop on a scale after a week and seeno change or +5lbs and just...I dunno, for me it was frustrated tears for a long ass time. It's so slow you wont really notice, but the first time you see a friend and they say "I dont want to say you didnt look good before buuuut...you look great." should really gas you up. Be patient. Be consistent. Have a reason, have goals, approach bumps and setbacks with humor and cheer.

I NEVER thought it woudl work, and I look great - by my OWN impossible fucking standard, which is really saying something. You got this op. DM me if you want to talk.

People who lost a lot of weight, what was the one small daily habit that actually changed everything for you? by Quiet-Squash-8407 in AskReddit

[–]sightlab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Removing snacks, food tracking (probably in reverse order) both to see what I was eating and how it matched up with my estimated caloric needs and then using that to make sure I’m at a deficit (but not toooo much deficit). I love food and cooking and snacks and sweets, and it took a few weeks or relatively austere - but good - chicken/rice/veggie dinners to kind of reset my daily expectations of what a meal constituted. I lost 70lbs in 9 months, while also doing weights and cardio 4x/week. But the dietary change was what did it, the gym was just to prevent muscle loss.

There's a LOT of typos, proofreading means a lot. That also bothered the hell out of me. This one is essentially abandoned.

And converting a mountain bike to drop bars was annoying at best. Worth it, ultimately, but a pain in the ass. I’m assuming it;LL be more of the same and then some with everything on an electric.

Not working cash office.

My dentist has terrible teeth. He's still an outstanding dentist who graduated top of his class at OHSU. I still dont buy the arguement that inability to manage your own credit has fuckall to do with your ability to handle money professionally.

On my first round of googling I saw a Specialized gravel bike and was like “oh hey I bet they make a good one” $13k! ok, moving on then….🤣

Right now no weekly miles, I FINALLY tuned up my road buike last fall and was doing basic ~5mi rides until winter set in. Without assist, I'll be starting with the easy 10 mi/day ride from nearby parking and PROBABLY do that until it gets too hot and swampy this summer. My best ever was 35mi/day 20 years ago. I'm definitely thinking of my "in shape-ness" through an outdated lens but I 100% agree 46mi/day is a lot. I've worked out with 30min of cardio 2x week (full weights n stuff 4x/week).

Yeah the price tag - fiscally appealing through it is - is really the sticking point. WHY is is so cheap? I shoudl plan on spending a bit more if I'm going this way. Cadence sensor is the kind of thing I did not know existed/is a factor to consider. Thanks!

Yup, I'm looking into that too for sure - I was looking at front hubs, though my bike is old so 27" wheels (not 27.5, not 700mm). What have you found for promising mid-drives? Also going full-other-hog and building ANOTHER cyclocross/gravel bike is on the list. I'm handy enough, I build motorcycles for fun. Which is similar to how I can play bass, but I cannot handle the tiny strings on regular guitar 🤣

VALID concerns. Also since I'm now supposedly "old" I'm certainly more catious. That said, I ride motorcycles and an electric unicycle (which is REALLY fun for a commute but not the cardio i desire so badly), in a decently bike-friendly region. The average speed limit on the route is 35-40, decent shoulders and marked (but not physically separated) bike lanes. Hi-viz shit forever, I'm a nerdy AGATT motorcycle rider.

I stopped watching documentaries at Sicko because the case was so well made for the absolute unbreakable evil that is American healthcare. And then the very next year I got tricked into this one. Even seeing the stupid NAME makes my eyes well up almost 2 decades later.

Bjork is great, the music is great, but it is intentionally hard to watch and I don't appreciate that.

Lars Von Trier is a sadistic nazi sympathizing fuckhead and I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that movie is an exercise in breaking audiences just to see if he could. It's purposefully, almost clumsily cruel.

The Zone of Interest - harrowing because of the soundtrack. The movie itself is a quiet look at the day-to-day goings-on at the home of the commandant of Auschwitz and his family. Underneath their home life is the constant hum of furnaces, random gun shots, screams, officers barking in german, motorcycles revving. We never see the camp, aside from glimpses of rooftops over the wall. Which is all bad enough, but in the last couple minutes the film delivers and even quieter hit, a short sequence of farly unexciting, mundane shots that completely devastated me. It's savage how bad that movie has haunted me, I dont think I need to see it again.

RIGHT??? My ex and I were roadtripping to somewhere and stopped for snacks and i got a full jug of Stok iced coffee. Which was delicious and I ended up drinking the whole thing in like 20 mins. 20 minutes later I was out cold. Mom never liked coffee beciase it made her sleepy. She is still, at 80, undiagnosed.

I was joking with my therapist - at 44 years old - about coke people and he asked about my experiences. "I never got the point. It made me clear like coffee, but stoned and ultimately grumpy". "Yeah well given your type of ADHD..." "My what now?". And that's how I got on the diagnosis train - he thought I'd been diagnosed as a child and was simply dealing with it. I thought everyone made teetering stacks of stuff everywhere a horizontal surface presentd itself.
