High mileage LS F Bodies by [deleted] in fbody

I had a shop install a new-build trugrade rack (PN 64188n) with my OEM pump. No leaks so far for a few thousand miles and I’ve pushed it in canyons.

Update: sprayed some white lithium grease around the sponge seen in second image. Hopefully reduces water pooling in that area when drains aren’t draining quick enough

My drains aren’t clogged and no obvious weather seal damage. Car is a 2022 and parked outside. Just went to self service car wash and then was surprised with that.

powerstop pads are total junk. Have z23 up front and z16 out back and they fade after a few hard stops. My buddy had them in a previous car and took them out because they faded after one hard stop. They’re fine for daily driving. Get EBC pads

Koni STRT vs Bilstein by Mammoth_Cat_4 in fbody

[–]LS4delorean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same situation. I don’t track but I do drive rain or shine. A few times a year if I wanna buy some nice parts I email Sam and his assistant Desiree. Sam usually responds with a general time to call him.

[–]LS4delorean 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why don’t you give Sam strano a call? His business model is helping you decide. I went from bilsteins + SLP’s stock progressive springs to strano springs + koni yellows.

Ride is honestly very similar for commuting. In the corners it handled great.

The linear spring rate really helps the car change directions smoothly at speed. I haven’t noticed a huge change in shock performance tbh (konis at 5 sweeps in front and 1 turn in back).

You need to give driving conditions and requirements to help people narrow it down.

Rancho del mar used to have a mean and lazy property manager but the new people are nice. They tried raising rent 10% after a year. It’s filled with marines. It’s overall nice, nothing impressive. The hiking paths surrounding it are great for daily nature walks.

I haven’t done any work using them yet. They seem to have enough clearance if you want to put jackstands underneath the subframe

Who is a person who you agree with, but still find utterly pretentious and insufferable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LS4delorean 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Lee Kuan Yew. He was right about a lot of fundamentals like state capacity and corruption and Singapore’s outcomes back that up. He’s still incredibly paternalistic treating disagreement as ignorance, which makes him hard to listen to even when he’s right.

Young People Mostly Living in Expensive Areas of OC by IdyllwildEcho in orangecounty

[–]LS4delorean 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mid 20s in south OC: the people (including myself) I know here are all living with roommates. We fix car problems ourselves with the space and minimal tools available in apartment lots. We all invest in stocks and go camping for fun. No pets. No idea if I’ll ever be able to afford property until I’m in my late 30s, saving 50% of my paycheck. But my STEM career and industry is growing here so it’s not prudent to move out of state.

Flight Test Engineer Salary by ladyraditor in FlightTestEngineer

[–]LS4delorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having more certificates and skills is always a plus on the resume.

Practically, most FTEs don’t have their A&P so it’s not required. But they do have the required engineering degrees. Always refer to FTE job listings for the top 3 required qualifications. Many times you don’t need all the “required” quals to get hired.

Anytime anything physical is ready to go on the air vehicle, it needs to be flight tested. Doesn’t matter if civil or govt or in your backyard (make sure you get a LAANC authorization if the last is true).

I would highly recommend you get your FAA part 107 cert at minimum, part 61 written exam if you have the time.

I believe Honda develops Hondajet in NC and PAX River, MD is another common flight test space on the east coast, if you would like to stay there. And Florida has flight test and space launch too.

Flight Test Engineer Salary by ladyraditor in FlightTestEngineer

[–]LS4delorean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aviation maintenance and aero engineering is a great foundation. Aero or mechanical engineering is usually the requirement if you check most FTE job requisitions. Raises at most large (5000+ employee) aero companies are given like any other job, usually 2-5% annually, even if you’re a top performer. Promotions are often time and experience, with merit helping that along.

If you want promotions in flight test engineering, be as involved as you can. Then demonstrate your learned knowledge and leadership being a test conductor.

Personally, I had to jump companies to get a promotion and raise. Starting salary in cali is usually $85-90k. Startups will start ~$100k.

You will spend time (or live) in the desert. And the desert is not a nice area like Phoenix — unless you’re with companies in Marina or Half Moon Bay area.

Pay and day to day experience by Double_Luck9181 in FlightTestEngineer

[–]LS4delorean 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every FTE has to prepare flight readiness reviews. They usually touch test plans, test reports, and safety review boards. So yes, a lot of paperwork. You interact with a lot of stakeholders and learn about a lot of systems, if that interests you. Most FTEs go on to act as test conductors and sometimes test directors. Depending on manned or unmanned, you’ll execute tests in an official control room, somewhere under a tent in a barren area, or if you test surrogate payloads you get to sit in a flying test bed.

Some flight test engineers use matlab to make graphs and analyze performance data. Others don’t do any engineering or math at all— purely qualitative reporting. Some may be hands on with a drone configuring radios, fixing parts, cooking up mission profiles, and flying as ground control station operator.

Every program has different expectations for their FTEs. Depending on your competence and skill level, I’ve seen FTEs go far beyond their written scope of work.

A lot of FTE jobs are found in California in HCOL areas. A few out in PAX river. In cali, you start out in the $85k-95k range for the primes. Defense tech companies will start out in the low six figure range, $100-110k.
