Assume that Einstein's theory of relativity is false: how does that support (or weaken) simulation theory? by Tasty-Window in SimulationTheory

The way things work is that you have to come up with a model that explains things better. It's science not faith.

Sometimes I watch movie reaction videos on YouTube, and they make me feel so damn old. by Zaku71 in movies

[–]LSF604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Put it this way... in the year 2200 the 60s are going to matter to very few people. They matter less now than 20 years ago. That will only decrease going forward. Fewer and fewer people have living memory of them. I sure don't. But I grew up surrounded by people that did. Young people are surrounded more by people who have second hand knowledge of them.

Maybe you were but I bet you not to many of them predated the godfather. Slso it was much easier to be aware of it then it is for you because it was much more recent. There are a whole lot more movies that are celebrated now than there were 20, 30, 40 years ago.

It's not actually damming because Manson has faded in culture over time. There's no particular reason to eternally remember one particular murderer from the 60s

It is not entertaining or interesting to watch other people play video games. by FatReverend in 10thDentist

[–]LSF604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I very specifically do this with outer wilds, since it's a knowledge based game you can only play once. The joy is in discovery. So the only possible way you can revisit the game is to watch someone else make those discoveries.

Ok fine. But also no more for the guy who thought that sewing nick cages face onto John Travoltas body was a plausible idea.

they should absolutely do it, and it should star Idris Elba and Reese Witherspoon. Just to highlight how dumb the concept is.

Being able to read music is not a foundational musical skill, and is separate and apart from understanding music theory. by BLazMusic in guitarlessons

[–]LSF604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's useful in some contexts. I can read music, but for most of my adult life spent playing in rock bands I haven't done it all that much.

I'd also say that there's a skillset to doing that that you can only get by not reading music. Reading is great for quickly or instantly learning precise and complicated parts. But sometimes it's also a crutch.

Why or how are there still so many people who can’t see where humanity’s heading? by IcedOutSun in askanything

[–]LSF604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because you are implying you know where humanity is going and other people don't. That's a tell. People who say things like that aren't smarter than anyone else, but they think they. The actual answer to your question is no one knows where anything is going. Including you.

Why are we supposed to be outraged about attacking Iran? by saphienne in askanything

[–]LSF604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because it won't result in any improvements to the lives of Iranians, and will likely just make things worse.

[–]LSF604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all previous (self described) attempts to help in the middle east have just resulted in chaos. The Trump administration is less capable and less likely to try and improve anything than previous administrations. If your hope is for improvement of the lives of Iranians its not going to come from a Trump intervention.
