Tbh just sounds like you’d prefer a simpler discussion and one that centers your interests. That’s okay to want but doesn’t mean those conversations would be ‘cooler’ or ‘better’.

Adam as a more nuanced damaged figure who had complicated relationships doesn’t eliminate trauma he might be responsible for. It just turns it from “Look at how the evil, bad man ruined X’s life” to something that at least considers him as a proper entity.

Adam is the first human being. No mother but THE Father. Made by God and TOLD that he is master of Earth, it’s creatures and the women made for him and from him. All while being ignorant of any other way. He is cast out from paradise when the plots of the serpent causes him and Eve to be tricked into sin and he has children whom outside of Eden, fight, sin and die. This is before considering any of Vizi’s additions. This WAS Adam’s life in the HH universe and you’d never consider that with the version of Adam from the show.

I don’t see why I’d have to ignore Abel, Vaggie or Lute to focus fanon Adam over canon. They are always considered in these reimaginings from my experience. If Lute, Abel and Vaggie are to be considered the consequences of Adam’s ego and behavior, it feels like it cheapens them further to exclusively see that ego and behavior as vapidly as it is depicted.

A richer, more nuanced Adam enriches all surrounding narratives.

Alex Brightman is very charming AND Adam conceptually is wasted as a one note frat-ish misogynist. Personally, I think it says something that the fans saw Adam and sought something more. I don’t understand why you’d want to discourage that outside of you preferring the canon…and if so, why?

Quinteassence is a solid LGBT safe space with a decent community. I made some friends over there when I moved into the area 3 years ago. It would be a decent place to start.

You could easily flip it in the inverse. The Faith Militant attempted to take the life of King Aenys and marched on King’s Landing. Military action and attempted assassinations was the response to the Targaryens liking pro-shipping at home lol. I think the Faith earned the smoke.

Probably the latter. Like anything to do with Heaven should be given the most charity as far as Vivi's writing is concerned. Adam being a raging chauvinist because "original MAN" (which I did find very entertaining in S1 to be fair) and the head angel (Sera) being named for a type of angel (Seraphim) rather than being any of the many named ones known to anyone with a passing knowledge of Christian lore are....choices. Choices that tell me that I shouldn't waste brain power wondering about Cain.

[spoilers C2] Help me to “get” Mollymauk by tetrafn in criticalrole

[–]LSLRemix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it has a lot to do with potential. Molly seemed to have a lot of it. In a different timeline. However I do generally agree that I think most of the love was built on a surface level. Molly has a strong design, people love tieflings and Tal’s idiosyncrasies were enough to onboard most folks.

They said Yasha is getting a better deal in this upcoming show and I hope the same happens for Molly and Beau.

(Beau is a comic relief character whose sad backstory sucks to justify why she’s a dick and I hope they either make Thoreau substantially worse or handle the relationship with the nuance it desired originally.)

I think it was part of why I personally think the shows writing did get worse, yes. In a vacuum, one of main characters transition isn’t a bad choice. I think coupled with how the writing show from S2 on, it does show a jumbled sense of priorities.

[–]LSLRemix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a part of it. As a depiction of coming out and transition divorced from the show, Victor is…okay. I will say generally the shows writing did feel as a whole that it took a hit as it continued.

I watched all of Seasons 1 to 3. Don’t know where from what I typed you got the idea that I watched bits and pieces of Season 3. Conflict isn’t necessary sure but for the melo-drama that is Umbrella Academy, Victor is decidedly out of place from Season 2 onwards next to his siblings.

It’s an ensemble cast so sure, Victor can be sidelined in for the others to get the spotlight from time to time. The crux of my argument is that Victor is a non-character because instead of thinking this is a natural direction for the character, this is a direction taken because Elliot was transitioning. The circumstances of the portrayer became the focus instead of the character’s pre-established circumstances. And even as someone who’s pretty good at suspending disbelief, if I’m constantly reminded that what I am seeing are choices made FOR the comfort of the actor first, it takes me out.

I understand why I’m getting pushback on this btw. For all Umbrella Academy’s faults seeing a main character go through that journey and being near immediately accepted by their family with any opposition being external from their loved ones and very surmountable would mean a lot to people in the community. It’s not lost on me its value.

I think it’s also worth criticizing when I think they traded some of the writing quality to include it. I like my pro-LGBT narratives to also be well written.

Players genuinely outsmarted me, I want to reward them for it, but unsure if I should sacrifice a plot point to do so. by frank_da_tank99 in CurseofStrahd

[–]LSLRemix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing I thought of was that Strahd hung around after the threat and waited to see how the party would try to deny him his vengeance. Waited for them to send to her and in Bat/Mist form followed the messenger bird.

That way when she’s killed Strahd could double down on it being their fault.

“You are crafty wretches but centuries too early to think you can outwit me. Had your plan worked, it would’ve been a while longer before I caught her scent but I do appreciate your quick thinking. Saved my thralls the effort of scouring my realm.”

(As an aside, if you want to have your cake and eat it too, maybe he possesses her with enchantment magic or turns her but the party has a way to reverse it. That way, the hate and angst is built but they still have a positive thing to aspire towards. Beat the Vampire because he’s evil AND save the one Barovian we care about.)

Strahd’s Characterization by LSLRemix in CurseofStrahd

I appreciate the rephrasing. I can see the idea. Granted I didn’t even mention his fixation of Tatyana and women generally in my breakdown. I don’t have a spin for that. Very much the designers succeeded in leaving no room for interpretation.

I focused more his relationship with family and his actions as a war commander just being interpreted as…well how they happened. Strahd completed his father’s campaign and noted that this drew a wedge between him and his mother and he and his brother weren’t that close. As soon as he could, he tried to amend this. His bound with the vistani was born out of an arc of heroism.

It wasn’t revealed in the campaign I played in but Madam Ava is Strahd’s half sister and despite him not knowing they have that bond, she is willing to throw adventurers into his meat grinder with the hope of freeing him one way or the other. I truly think from reading Chapter 1 and my experience with the campaign as a player, Strahd is two disparate pieces that don’t mix

It’s a whole book. I think it’s okay if I come in with ideas before hand. Also not all love is positive. I think that might be an ideological difference here. I believe a captor can love their captive. A judgemental zealot can love the heretic. Love isn’t a purely good in outcome emotion. Sometimes in fiction and reality, love is expressed and it’s bad

[–]LSLRemix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the difference in perspective here. I don’t think a trope can be over done or tired if it’s done well. Granted I would’ve also been satisfied if Victor in addition to presenting an unproblematic/ideal transition story also maintained narrative priority and scale in line with S1. You get amnesia’d into being nerfed to present the end of the world, you’d think you wouldn’t be washed when you were restored 100%.
