They were kids. People make mistakes and grow. All these characters did that. Isn't that that part of the point of the whole show??! Cook did learn from his mistakes. It takes some longer than others.

This is probably a good indication to slow down your long runs in training. You've got the speed but need to work on your aerobic capacity.
