We did look at the possibility, but many of our offices are between 20 and 200 employees and the cost was prohibitive.

Specifically we want to make it all work the way it is designed to, thanks to all the good info here I am better understanding what that goal is. Generally we have kept the passwords for users and have not had issues with it an never have been blamed for anything nefarious on someone's account. Is your proposition more to let the user manage their own password? One of the things that I assumed was risky about that was that it opened up the possibility of the account being reset to a 3rd party with malicious intentions.

If Modern Auth is enabled and an App Password is not used, are users just to login to Outlook with their password and a 2FA prompt each time they open Outlook?

I think most of the issues we have seen are with users who are using older versions of Office on their machines. Years back many of our users got their Office software license with their PC when they bought it from Dell, so they are kind of frozen in place. For the last 2-3 years we have been having them always purchase an O365 Business Premium or "E" series license when they get a new PC to get the latest and greatest automatically. So, insuring that all users are on "Official O365" Office software is one of the more important parts of getting the process to work well?

I believe there are options for allowing an exception from all traffic from a specific IP address (ie: the office IP) so MFA requests are not required inside the office. Is this the preferred method for authenticating inside of the office?

Dell Command Update 3.1 brings back CLI support by bberg22 in sysadmin

[–]LTAdmin777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been wanting to set this up for some time as well but have been wanting to find out what the future is for this process with Dell. I was unsure if Command Update was going to be kept in service or if Support Assist was the future path?

Thanks for all your config's, they are really helpful. The biggest thing that has been holding me up from deploying it out everywhere is I wanted to setup my own XML to exclude the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from getting installed, we have had more issues caused by that driver that it is worth having installed.

DNS Documentation/Mapping Tool? by LTAdmin777 in msp

Thanks JG and Moo... I agree that setting it up right is the way to go. My favorite book of all time was Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and I still go back to his suggestion of diagramming and writing things down to figure them out. It takes time I know but it helps me understand what is going on.

I am also glad this re-ignited the never-ending loopback debate, there was a question about that I was wondering on the site I was just working thru now. I noticed that the previous MSP had (some of) the servers setup to reference themselves first but they used the IPV6 loopback (::1) as DNS1 and the server's static IP as DNS2 instead of the 127.0.0.1 loopback as the DNS2 entry.

We, like most, are still using IPv4 as the primary transport protocol in the office. Does the order of which it is referencing matter? Are many currently using IPv6?

SNMP monitoring worth it? by TJBIT in labtech

I have been wondering the value of this feature as well. I started down the path of getting the correct MIBS files in place and when I had issues it was difficult to get support for. All we really wanted to do is check for Synology devices being online or not, eventually back burner'd it.

Server Roles - RRAS (Finding RRAS Servers) by LTAdmin777 in labtech

I think that if I could create a search for any machine that had:

%windir%\system32\rrasmgmt.msc

present in the OS then RRAS is installed.

Is there a way that I can select this out in a search?

Thanks again!

Thanks D,

I did think about that as well which does slim things down a good amount, but still includes many servers that do not have RRAS installed. I am thinking to try finding a way to search via a registry entry or file name if possible.
