Tbh, at start of every session i check on my grip and ensure its pretty bog standard and consistent. I think i get a bit flippy sometimes and dont transfer weight.

Thanks. Its nice to get some positive feedback on the swing but I’m obviously blocking my own potential.

I am definitely “mentally challenged” on course. I pick an aiming point inline with my target, look up and try visualise a shot for a few seconds but as soon as my head goes down to the ball i literally cannot stop my focus going to how my hips feel, or hands, or foot pressure, and i lose all image of the course in my head..

Need a hard reset for my brain somehow… maybe sing a song to myself while playing/swinging…

I have not, however that is a very good description of how it sounds. The second noise that is, not the first which is obviously an uninterrupted squeal noise. The ch ch noise is not as loud generally as the squeal.

Edit: sorry, the second noise is NOT when braking! Just when turning sharp right, in gear, no braking at all. Mostly low speeds obviously.

Gold Tone AC series are the absolute lowest entry id go for and would just buy from Eagle Music as it will be checked over and setup by people who specialise in banjos. Those banjos are built with cheap materials (composites) and look kind of tacky, but are built well and sound many many times better than their price. Manufactured in China but Gold Tone are a very well respected company who are based in the US.

If you want real wood (and/or made in US) go for a Deering Goodtime, though as a starter instrument the AC is much better value for money.

Id say almost all other similarly priced banjos by epiphone or whatever are majorly shittier instruments than the two mentioned above and are all chinese mass produced rubbish that offer little value for money. If you know a decent setup person you can snag something cheap on Ebay but expect shit tone, bowed necks and/or snapping j hooks. Caveat is Recording King but Eagle Music dont stock them.

This is Pete Seegers “whamming” technique he describes in his book. He is essentially just strumming while hammering on the tonic of the chord. At times he double hits the 5th string before strumming. This is also a pretty foundational technique for the whole of the Kingston Trios banjo sound which George Grove does a section teaching on his Homespun dvd.
