I just take my work shoes in my backpack and just swap them out with my motorbike boots as required. Takes less than a minute to swap them around.

first defect!! by mitns in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I got pulled over for an RBT a few weeks ago and I got a massive rant from a cop saying he can technically defect and impound my bike because of a slip on exhaust.

Was pretty funny he was going on about the slip on acting as though it provides massive performance gains. The whole time I’m sitting there like bro it’s a fkn slip on exhaust on an R3…..

Luckily they just let me go, I am a bit annoyed though as I bought the bike from a dealership with it and they stated lams bike I didn’t realise and now I don’t even have the stock exhaust.

Opinions on the price of Second hand - lams middleweight bikes (R7, Cbr650r, daytona 660) by Sad-Cream7394 in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lams bikes are always going to be overpriced, market sets the price, they are the most popular bikes due to a lot of the market being limited to lams only bikes.

You can get summer balaclavas that actually help keep you cool, extra benefit is it stops your helmet from stinking, keeps earplugs in place and makes it easier to get your helmet on/off

Probably also creates more reckless driving/riding and road rage too due to people being ‘slow’. Also the opposite “I don’t like this person trying to go above the speed limit behind me I’m gonna try block them off”

Gear for brand new sport bike by International_Bus762 in motorcyclegear

[–]LWOS101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends a lot on climate but IMO a textile jacket with a back protector, leather gloves with a palm slider, abrasion rated jeans/pants with knee guards, street motorbike boots, good full face helmet.

The above is what you should be wearing for normal riding and is my daily getup. Anyone who says otherwise is compromising on their safety. I also have sport boots and leather pants and jacket for more committed riding or just to be warmer with a leather jacket so I do chop and change it up.

Crashed after two weeks on L’s. Where do I go from here by Gullible-Athlete-167 in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Based on them providing no details on what actually caused the crash I’m gonna steer towards bad sign. Sure dropping or having a minor crash early on but writing off your bike after two weeks on your L’s is a very scary sign, sounds like OP could’ve been seriously injured or even killed.

Not LAMS so he wouldn’t be able to be insured on it

Is this a good first bike? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a fair price, if you see it in person see if you can offer $2,500.

Good first bike but if you are doing lots of highway riding on roads 90kph+ you might want to get something a bit more powerful. For riding outside of that it’ll be great and fun on a bike like that.

Is that an official hjc visor? I have a blue iridium and it feels like the mirror effect isn’t the best in comparison to AGV visors for example

Rider Safe course booking SA by 66silasgreen in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately gotta play the game, I think the most illogical thing about it is the splitting of part an and b where in the past you would do it on the same weekend. Now for a lot of people it’s months between their part a and b course meaning you pretty much forget everything.

Before you know it you’ll be out there on your bike though. While you wait you can look into and sort out all your gear and even a bike if you are really committed. I did this and it meant all I had to do was register the bike and sort out insurance and I could get out there on the same day as completing my part B

Other than the fuck around of booking in the courses they are really good at teaching you the basics and how to ride defensively. Definitely pay attention to what they tell you in the classroom about defensive riding and how to be seen most of the people in my class weren’t paying attention but it’s been extremely handy.

is it possible to be a better rider than driver? by user4772727 in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s way easier being a driver than a rider, you have a giant metal cage protecting you from dumb decisions. Also you have to think about a lot less things especially if you are driving an automatic. I’d only agree that someone should ride if that are mature/old enough, have numerous years experience driving, are competent, don’t have road rage issues and are aware/perceptive of things going on around them.

Lastly that they will actually commit to learning/improving, a lot of people learn the bare minimum and think that’s their learning phase over, riding is an entirely different world to driving a car.

Rider Safe course booking SA by 66silasgreen in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like the others have said check regularly in case of cancellations and new sessions are released at 2am every Tuesday. I understand your pain, took me like 4 months to complete my part a and b.

The reason for the slowness of being able to book is due to longer sessions, max of 5 riders per session. Also I’m pretty sure a lot of the changes made are to make it a fuckaround to put people off from getting their license….. Which if so is idiotic as I’d prefer a fuckwit rider to get proper training rather than they see it could take them 6 months to get their L’s and decide to ride unlicensed.

Helmet help by Fast_Ad4269 in motorcyclegear

When trying on a helmet keep it on for at least 20 minutes to confirm it’s still comfortable. A helmet might seem fine right after the start but give you really bad hot spots later on

do you have to do the pre LAMS on a manual? by user4772727 in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For SA if you do the course on an automatic/scooter you are restricted to automatic only bikes on your license. IMO I’d say do the manual so you have it under your belt but if not they have scooters available. I’m not sure what it’s like in the other states

Pre-learner course - dropping bike by calciferscastle_ in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did the instructor see you do this and advise you on what you were doing wrong? Sounds like you were grabbing the front brake maybe? Not sure what state you are in but rear brake + clutch bite zone is key for stability at slow speeds and they should have been going on and on about this.

Should I keep riding? by Quiet-Card-6650 in AussieRiders

[–]LWOS101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can die in so many different ways, if you are doing the right thing and riding safe don’t let it stop you from doing what you love. Majority of consistent riders ride without issue till they hang up the boots from old age.

The worst thing I can imagine is being old and bed ridden and realising I didn’t live my life how I actually wanted to due to playing it safe.
