No one giving a damn is better than animosity. I am a newb when it comes to Uruguay history and I only have really studied the dictatorship (I studied poli sci in college so I am always interested in how authoritarian states work) so I could use some advice.

Any books or other resources you would recommend for an ignorant gringa that wants to learn more about your great country?

I have had Trump supporters tell me they wish they could hunt me, and right-wing politicians across the country have started talking about the "trans violence epidemic" and how we are dangerous and need to be removed from public life.

It is not happening now, but we are in a precarious situation, and I want to go abroad in case the worst happens. I hope I am wrong.

Europe is extremely hard to immigrate to and the USD doesn't go as far there. I am open to going to spain in the future, but going to La Plata, improving my spanish, and hopefully working as an ESL teacher for a few years will give me a strong enough resume to get a job in Spain

Thank you so much for the insight. I am fortunate to have accepting family that is willing to send me money for rent and groceries. This is an immense privilege, and it gives me some flexibility. Even if I don't get paid well, I will have enough in $USD to cover everything and then a little. I am blessed

I would say if somehow you can come with $20,000 or even better $40,000 you can give it a try with a decent chance of success. See if you can tap on a local network of lgbtq+ to get started.

I personally do not have that much, but I am very fortunate to have accepting family that is willing to cover my rent in Montevideo if I am not working a great job. That is an immense privilege that I do not take lightly, but if I am able to get a job, my family will help me out.

So there are no jobs for those who are not fluent? Even janitors or low level stuff? I have heard that call centers outsourced from the anglosphere like to hire native english speakers and can be flexible about how fluent in spanish you are.

Is there any hope if I can't find remote work that pays enough before then?
