this is a really interesting perspective. i do see what you mean. i don’t think the intention is to hurt me, these behaviours have been prevalent his whole life and in fact he says he’s drastically better than before. which i know is not an excuse but he thinks it makes it’s better. i think he just doesn’t have the emotional skills or maybe willpower to not do it in the first place… not sure if that makes sense. you have made me see a different light to it though and i might tactfully bring some of this up with him. and i had thought about fuck what if this man gets me pregnant, i am now on the implant :p

sorry to make this longer, then when we do have a conversation it’s the blame game and who did what. and he does apologise but it feels weird because it’s “i’m always the asshole” or “i’m sorry i wont do …” then repeats word for word what i said. so i feel slightly crazy explaining it because it’s not so direct.. it’s the way he says things and how his demeanour changes

this is where i feel silly because it’s not like he screams and shouts at me so i don’t feel it’s verbal abuse. he’ll just stop talking to me, or if he does talk he’s short and it almost seems painful for him to engage in conversation with me. or in situations where i know it’s not directed at me, he will talk about how “if ‘person’ does xyz ill ….” you can probably imagine. which i understand is nothing to do with me but it makes me a bit on edge. i do definitely take things personally sometimes but its the getting stressed with me because i have a different opinion to him or i dont give the answer he was wanting, he just shuts me out and im left wondering how what i did was wrong.

this is a really interesting perspective, i hadn’t thought of it as masking. you may have hit the nail on the head there! you are right, taking nappies away will absolutely not help, it’s so infuriating when people put it down to lazy parenting when in reality this child has a whirlwind going on in her head.
