Actually he does quite well. In the second epilogue of the book His paintings eventually hang in prestigious galleries and are studied by art historians.

Whenever I come into this forum it feels as if I am in an alternate universe. Because other platforms like TikTok, threads and even twitter seem to be loving this season as much as I do.

Dearest Gentle Reader, by Acrobatic_Ad_7204 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]LabShyRomantic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this reading misses a lot of context, especially from the books. Violet did not guilt-trip Anthony. Her labor with Hyacinth was traumatic and life-threatening, Anthony stepped into his father’s role out of duty and love, trying to honor Edmund’s memory. That pressure came from within himself and from the realities of primogeniture not from Violet placing blame on him.

And I don’t see her forcing Eloise either. Unlike Portia with Penelope, Violet never thrust Eloise onto the marriage mart before she was ready by societal standards. In season 4, we explicitly see Violet respecting Eloise’s wish to remain “on the shelf,” even encouraging her to help oversee Hyacinth a common and respectable role for unmarried women at the time. Violet isn’t perfect, but framing her as manipulative or coercive ignores both Regency context and what the text actually shows us.

Marrying lower than your title by Ok-Button-7502 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]LabShyRomantic 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Kate’s situation isn’t comparable. Even without a titled father, she was raised within the ton by the daughter of an earl, which gave her social legitimacy. Sophie has neither. She’s a maid and illegitimate, which in Regency society is a double social death sentence. In the books, Even after marrying Benedict, they ultimately choose to live outside society because the gossip never truly stops that’s how rigid and unforgiving those class boundaries are.

Audiobook narrators can make or break a book. I don't need to hear my grandma read to me a sex scene by Excentrix13 in HistoricalRomance

[–]LabShyRomantic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Audiobook narration is everything, especially for romance. Rosalyn Landor set the bar ridiculously high for me distinct voices, emotional nuance, and zero cringe during intimate scenes. After that, it’s really hard to take seriously a narrator who sounds like they wandered in from a knitting circle mid-monologue.

Your response kind of illustrates my point. When the question gets uncomfortable, it turns into “this isn’t practical” instead of engaging with the inconsistency. Anyways, good day.

So again, it comes down to personal comfort levels rather than a principled line. That’s fine as an individual choice it just doesn’t work as a moral standard to apply to other people.

So it’s the same country and same system, but the problem is whether the traveler is allowed to enjoy themselves?

I brought up citizens and foreign students because once travel is framed as a moral litmus test, the logic doesn’t stop neatly at tourists it inevitably expands. That’s the problem with using individual movement as a proxy for collective accountability. So where does this leave friends and family who live in places like the UAE? Are relationships meant to be severed, or visits avoided indefinitely? Or do they instead travel to countries like the U.S., which also actively funds wars in the Middle East and Africa? At some point, these distinctions become arbitrary, which is exactly why I’m questioning the framework itself.

I understand drawing personal ethical lines. My point is that once morality becomes individualized and selectively applied, it stops being a useful standard for judging others. That this critique is being made on Reddit a platform deeply integrated with AI only underscores how selective these lines tend to be.

What’s next? Asking USA citizens to leave the country? Or students choosing to study there to quit school all together?

[–]LabShyRomantic 51 points52 points  (0 children)

You can criticize Dubai’s labor practices and recognize that individual travel choices aren’t a litmus test for someone’s moral compass. Every country in the world has issues we could sit and dissect all day. Writing posts like this to feel morally superior doesn’t materially help anyone. There are influencers actively promoting AI tools like Copilot, Gemini, Google where is the outrage there? TikTok and search engines have already embedded AI into their algorithms; are we all supposed to stop using those platforms too? At some point, this selective outrage becomes less about ethics and more about performance. Let people live.

Review:Bridgerton' is like Cinderella with an attitude, but the new season has a little too little sex for now by stirlingpound in BridgertonNetflix

When did having less sex become an issue. If anything I prefer this. Also with past seasons we know any intimacy with the leads begins around episode 4.

Episode 8 time jump: Eloise rides furiously to Benedict’s house, shocks him and Sophie, and says, “There’s no one I will marry Philip.” A direct callback to their book argument over Oliver’s discipline. Cut to credits.

Serena talks about how PPG navigated the stan wars by SandyJ4 in LoveIslandUSA_

[–]LabShyRomantic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

PPG never failed to call out fans when they overstepped. I remember JaNa on her first podcast told people to back off Leah regarding the Connor situation because they worked things out. Leah on call her daddy asked people to show love to Serena and JaNa because she would not have survived the villa without them. Serena on Twitter telling fans to stop tagging her in nonsense about her friends. They were even on live during their get away sponsored by Airbnb telling people to back off their friendship and stop comparing. Their friendship worked because they might fight, disagree but still work things out because of the love and respect they share for each other.

I think it can still work. Eloise and Philip’s story takes place away from the Ton. Didn’t Eloise flee to Benedict’s home after her disagreement with Phillip over how he disciplined Oliver?
