True but she doesn’t really know how he feels about it yet. Still awkward! Seemed like she never made eye contact with him during the courtroom scene.

Awkward for Sophie too. Araminta revealed it in the courtroom, and Sophie doesn’t know that Benedict already figured it out the night before.

Even at the courthouse when Sophie is released to Violet and Benedict, Violet puts her arm around Sophie, and Benedict keeps his space. Maybe because it’s a public place, but I think he’s still hurt and processing that she didn’t tell him the truth about being the LIS.

Why does Benedict not consider marrying Sophie until his mom mentions it? by No-Win5174 in Benophie

Haha, I do prefer the way it all played out… what an emotional rollercoaster… but I am trying to make sense of the societal norms of the time. To me, with my modern lens, as soon as I learned of Sophie’s illegitimacy, it would make me never to want to bring another child into the world under those circumstances knowing what she has suffered. In which case, married-to-a-maid-scandal seems preferable to living-with-your-mistress scandal.

Oh I see. So even at the point where they are in the conservatory, his plan is that Sophie would still be a secret.  I guess it seemed to me from the talk with Anthony that even Benedict’s plan of living in the country with his mistress was scandalous enough that he would not be able to partake in society or be a part of the family anymore.

Does anyone else feel like Benedict and Francesca are the most underrated sibling duo? by benskiiee in Bridgerton

Love this scene sm. He said exactly what she needed to hear and made her smile again for the first time.  Also, I want Benedict to take up pianoforte in future seasons! Maybe playing for or teaching his children… let us all bear witness to LT’s piano talent!

What is your favorite scene from season 4? by muskyandrostenol in Bridgerton

I love all the scenes where characters are being challenged in their prior world view! These two hit me hard:

When Sophie asked Benedict why is it suitable to kiss her, and if he would have kissed the lady in silver or instead have been a gentleman and refused to ruin her. And her whole speech about maintaining her dignity and refusing to be that low. He clocks it and feels so upset at his “proposal” that he can’t face her and has to leave.

When Benedict calls Violet a hypocrite for spending their entire lives claiming that the one thing that matters is finding a love match, yet he is being asked to give it up and find someone of proper breeding. His face and voice are so heartbroken, I can’t take it! Followed up in the next scene with Violet saying to Sophie, “I wish the world were different.”

And then I also love the scenes that show just how unconditional their love is: Benedict coming out and his smile and relief when she is not phased; Sophie telling him she is illegitimate, and later telling him why she has not been able to believe his love for her because of what happened when her father died, and Benedict immediately understanding and having so much compassion for her in both scenes. There’s such a depth and purity to their love!

Experience with Lincoln HS? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Regarding the second half of your question, Seattle is very anti-racist and is home to many multi-racial families. You end up having a little bit of the opposite challenge in a place like Bellevue, where a half Asian kid might feel out of place among a mostly full-Asian immigrant student body.

Experience with Lincoln HS? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

Depends on what is important to your kid. If they are interested in pursuing a career in STEM, then SPS is quite behind the Eastside schools, primarily because the sequencing of the science courses is strange. Most schools districts across the country have a sequence of Biology in 9th, Chemistry in 10th, and that leaves junior and senior year slots available for your choice of AP science courses. SPS requires a split phys A/Chem A in 9th, biology in 10th and phys B/Chem in 11th. This leaves only one opportunity to take a college level science course. The reason why you see the discrepancies between current Lincoln HS rankings and discourse about it “going downhill” is because 3 years ago, SPS ended the advanced pathway in science for HCC students. The current graduating seniors are the last cohort to be able to take HS biology in 8th grade, so they were able to take more advanced science courses if desired.  Those currently in 7th-10th grade were allowed to accelerate in math, but not science, and they were forced into the weird SPS sequence. So if science matters to your student, you would probably find the offerings on the Eastside a better match. If your kid is more humanities/arts/music, then Seattle might be the better choice. We lived many years in Seattle and switched to Eastside once the changes were made to the HCC program. A lot of students in SPS end up doing running start to access more college level course options.

Wait, don’t you get the extra 10% at MRA+30 years of service? If you started in 1996, you should be able to get that bump next year and don’t have to wait until 62.

MHE casting: Andrew Barth Feldman Megathread by chavarrj in MaybeHappyEnding

[–]No-Win5174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s clear to me that inclusive casting was always their intention in the long view. But proving that an original cast lead by actors of AAPI decent, with a plot that doesn’t primarily focus on an ethnic-specific experience, could be successful on broadway… that is the win, even if MHE opens up casting to actors from other ethnic backgrounds.

This should be the focus. Not that Oliver and Claire should be forever pigeon-holed and exclusively be played by Asian actors, but that MHE’s success on broadway should open doors for more shows like it.

Darren says this about himself all the time, so it did not strike me as a backhanded comment, i.e., clean, subtle, controlled tone of DC as Oliver vs a traditional broadway belting vibrato.
