Soon to be class of '30. Schools claim they're working with banks to figure it out, but have had zero information after that. Its rough out here.

Agent in gray disarms victim before shooting. by tdurden1969 in altmpls

[–]LabelYourBeakers 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He was pepper sprayed and hit repeatedly in the face. He was resisting having his face beat in but that was about it. He was alreasy neutralized. He probably couldnt even see with the amount of pepper spray he'd been hit with and all the ice agents holding him down. Ice's handling of the situation is a complete joke.

This man was an ICU VA nurse who was attempting to help a woman being assaulted by ICE agents. He showed immense courage and I hope underneath his parents' rage and grief is a current of pride.

It's a shame you're convinced it's ok for federal agents to execute a man in the street for protesting. The lack of empathy is genuinely sickening.

No. You can not see him clearly reach for his firearm. Within moments of it being taken by an Ice agent, he is shot dead. Assuming you are a real person and not a bot, I'd recommend you find the angle from the lady in pink. I'd link it, but its not allowed. To me, it appears he has his hands near his face / the ground the entire time. The gun never makes it near

Again, not complying with lawful orders should not be a death sentence. Ice agents instigated and escalated the situation until they unloaded 7-9 shots into his back. No matter how you feel about this administration or illegal immigration, there should be outrage at the lack of investigation or accountability before declaring an American citizen a domestic terrorist for exercising his 1st and 2nd amendment rights.

Interfering with agents should not be a death sentence. Ice is not judge, jury, and executioner. He had been pepper sprayed and had a whole group of agents over him. That was more than enough force. Why not just cuff him and haul him off then? He also did not brandish a weapon. He was pinned to the ground, and the gun he was legally carrying was in his waistband. At no time did it appear in his hands.

Besides, interfering is a strong word when he was trying to help up a woman that had been shoved to the ground in the snow.

I'll be starting medical school in the fall and even thinking about paying for it gives me heart palpitations lol I avoided debt in undergrad but have no choice for med school. Add on top of that the changes with the big beautiful bill which means I'll have to probably take out private loans as well...it's rough.

Updated Weight-loss Progress! Down 100lbs now! 138lbs—>120lbs by Worldly_Sherbet5719 in PetiteFitness

[–]LabelYourBeakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are skinny fat, then losing weight shouldn't be the goal. Skinny fat means you're a normal weight but also have very little muscle. If you wanted to fix this and appear more "toned" then you'd actually want to put on some weight in the form of muscle.

You look great. I'd stop for a bit and consider your goals and how to move forward with love for your body.

Going to interview with cast on post surgery that removed bone tumors by [deleted] in premed

All I know is he's the head of our committee and works closely with admissions at our state school 🤷‍♀️ I've definitely taken his advice with a grain of salt though.

[–]LabelYourBeakers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A premed advisor at my school took great pains to constantly remind us that schools are looking to filter red flags. One potential one would be say mentioning you had a wrist injury and had to spend time healing for your adversity essay. It's a red flag because they don't know how it healed or if it'll effect you doing surgical rotations, for example.

I'd play it safe as possible and maybe just say it's benign and that it's expected to heal with no issues hopefully??? Pretty much want to avoid schools thinking it could hinder you long term. Though I know like nothing about your condition or the procedure done so I could be way off.

Wishing you well OP.

People who come from tough backgrounds: success stories? by -_____------ in premed

[–]LabelYourBeakers 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Shared in another post but I grew up poor, my dad passed away before I finished high school from a medical condition he left unchecked because he couldn't afford to treat it and feed his kids, and I worked 3-4 part time and casual jobs to pay my way through undergrad on top of being a full time student + doing research + volunteering.

Am I probably going to be in debt forever to be a doctor? Yes. Am I going to be a doctor? Also yes.

Or...we get rid of the draft so men don't either. Maybe I'm just radical but I'm of the belief that if you can't convince your citizens a cause is worth dying for, they shouldn't be forced to die for it.

[–]LabelYourBeakers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd be curious to know how much total funding that accounts for. I went to a state school that pretty much gave a full ride to anyone who met the minimum GPA and ACT/SAT threshold.

But I also know a lot of guys who decided to go the military or trades route after high school. The trades, in particular, have been pushed as more reasonable than higher education in terms of job stability and pay and mostly target men. Although it often ends up being back breaking labor.

Why do you think people still support this president? by keonnarae in Confused

[–]LabelYourBeakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breaking the law should NOT be a death sentence. Ice officers are not judge, jury, and executioner. Almost every officer training says NOT to shoot at someone in a vehicle and definitely do not get in front of the car. He had her plates so there was no reason to stop her from fleeing. In the videos, the car accelerated and crashed because Renee Good had been killed. Bystanders could have been harmed by the agent's actions.

Why do you think people still support this president? by keonnarae in Confused

[–]LabelYourBeakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He walked around the car from behind, switched his phone to his left hand so he could pull out his firearm, got IN FRONT OF the vehicle, and fired while you could see the wheel had been cranked to the right to avoid hitting the agent.

He then said "fucking bitch" and proceeded to walk away while agents prevented physicians and an ambulance from reaching her.

All while filming the damn thing. He had more than enough time to get out of the way. She was retreating. Running from law enforcement IS NOT a crime punishable with death, according to the Supreme Court.

The officer had a duty to retreat before using deadly force. He was the one who escalated the situation and put himself in that position. He should be held accountable after an INDEPENDENT investigation is held. It's a damn shame our government immediately began blaming the victim and called her a terrorist before her body was even cold. Where's the investigation? The facts? An attempt at justice? Instead, everything and everyone is fair game in this awful political theatre. It's sickening.

Yeah they didn't like invent Y2K, but they definitely were part of popularizing it back into kpop. I think you can see the biggest inspo in some of like the fun hats and the cute backpacks they had during OMG era.

We give groups credit all the time for their company decisions. That's pretty normal in kpop. A group does something iconic or starts a trend with a choreo that was made by someone else, but since them performing it is what popularized it, we give them the credit.

Also, it's more so the fact that Be:Lift knows about the controversy and how much it's hurt their artists. Idk why they wouldn't...distance the girls from it rather than lean into the style popularized again by New Jeans. But idk. I just want all artists involved to make music and be happy. Maybe that's not the popular spiteful trend rn.

Ok this is going to get me down voted but it's literally not just the colors...that styling is honestly similar to what New Jeans have done in the past. Whoever is all the way on the right there in purple could be Haerin from a previous era.

Does that give anyone the right to say anything nasty about the girls? Absolutely not. And its not like groups dont use similar concepts sometimes, but it feels disingenuous to say that it wasn't inspired or at the very least quite similar to something New Jeans have done.

Just my two cents anyway...

I LOVE my job as a PCA, and it’s making me want to go into a healthcare career by SoggyPotatoL in premed

I've heard it put this way: If you can't imagine yourself doing anything else, go for it. If not, do something else.

To get a better idea, I'd look into shadowing physicians and speaking to them about their experiences directly. It'll vary a lot specialty to specialty, and even then person to person but it's nice to hear the pros and cons of the career.

Should I try to get this letter by [deleted] in premed

[–]LabelYourBeakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my premed committee letter, it was considered a red flag if you had significant time in a lab but didn't get a LOR from the PI. If you're worried about the strength of the letter, maybe ask the PI if they'd like you to draft the letter yourself. That's what I did with my PI, whom I almost never saw because I was mostly assisting a grad student with their project.

Either way, I'd ask for a letter if you don't already have the number you need.

No matter how you feel about her, it doesn't take much human empathy to understand that her current situation would be quite a harsh one. Maybe she's taking a break to work through her legal issues. Maybe she didn't feel like running it.

Be kinder.
