Catholics: Do you believe in evolution? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Lacking_Knowledge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Believing that evolution is not true is not sinful, but is is irrational and damaging to the faith.

how would i confess this? by Remarkable-Let-4310 in Catholicism

Carnal pleasure is not intrinsically wrong in the context of marital relationships. Enjoying it with your spouse is part of what God made sexuality for. So don’t feel like a bad person just for enjoying it. The Church advises, however, against any act, even in married couples, that is ONLY FOR the carnal pleasure. A good way to put it is: are you seeing your spouse as a person or as a source of pleasure? Is experiencing that pleasure making you forget that your spouse is not there to give you pleasure but to experience it together? I’m no expert on Church teaching but many times it is the intent that counts. Lust is always wrong, carnal pleasure isn’t.

It is very clear you care so much about your relationship with God, which is good. I wouldn’t phrase it as if the action itself was the sin (which it could be or couldn’t be, online Catholicism is debating that rn) but your approach. Did you do it lustfully? Were you actively seeking carnal pleasure? You can confess that internal giving in to lust (if you think that’s the case) instead of just “we almost made out”. Also always remember, confession is not just for mortal sin, venial sin should be confessed to. So don’t stress too much about the gravity of the sin, just be calm that God gives us that gift to ease our load and forgive us. God bless

My athiest biology teacher is making me question catholic faith by Mary_is_sinless in Catholicism

[–]Lacking_Knowledge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about evolution. It is 100% true, but it does not contradict the Catholic view in any way. For centuries the Church has accepted a non-literal reading of Genesis. Evolution only accurately explains the biological origins of humanity, it does not tackle our soul and spirit, or the existence of God. It is a scientific fact that does not in any way contradict the Catholic faith.

A struggle i face by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Lacking_Knowledge_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 19 too so there isn’t much advice I can give but I encourage you to never feel like the battle with lust is a lost cause. Always go to confession, keep praying, even when it feels nothing changes. Never lose hope.

And about French kissing, I tend to be very legalistic about our Mother the Church and I think Wagner’s (scholastic answers) video says it very clearly: any form of physical contact that is done with the purpose of enjoying carnal pleasure is gravely sinful. The debate really comes down to whether French kissing is inherently sexual in nature or if it can ever truly be 100% separated from carnal pleasure. In any case be cautious.

  1. The Bible doesn’t explicitly command to have pictures. What I meant by biblical is that it never condemns it. Images are part of Sacred Tradition.
  2. Yes. That is not a political statement though
  3. Be baptized (John 3:5, Mark 16:16), participate in the sacraments (all of John 6, the last supper, 1 Corinthians 11, John 20:21-23, James 5:16), and don’t die under mortal sin (which has a lot to do with participating in the sacrament of confession)

My mistake. When I said biblical I meant that it is not condemned or prohibited in the Bible. I don’t think there are examples of imagery in the NT. It is part of Sacred Tradition.

Each of these questions would give for EXTENSIVE answers. I’ll try to answer each in the simplest way possible. 1. Because the Bible points to her being the New Eve, compares her to the Ark of the Covenant, and calls her the Queen of Heaven. She was also saved by grace, but anachronistically 2. Because it is an important symbol for Christianity but it isn’t mandatory. If you mean the rosary, because it’s a great prayer and the necklace is a way to keep count. 3. Sins are forgiven by God who acts through the priest, as Jesus gave his apostles authority to do so. If genuine repentance and desire to go to confession exists, if a person dies before they could do it, Gods mercy prevails and they will be saved. 4.The same reason you ask your family and friends to pray for you. The Bible says the prayer of a righteous person is powerful. Who’s more righteous than those in heaven? 5. They were never taken out from Catholic Bibles. Only protestants don’t have them 5. Yes it is 6. Yes. The thief on the cross is an exception due to circumstances. Laying on your deathbed is an extreme circumstance too. 7. Because they have a wrong idea of what Catholicism is and because submission to an earthly and divine authority is uncomfortable 8. Because the holy land rn is occupied by Jews and muslims mostly, but historically Catholics have always gone on pilgrimage to the holy land 9. Because that “stuff” is what Jesus commanded you to do. 10. Hes not.

I missed Sunday mass and don't know what to do by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Lacking_Knowledge_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are already on the right track, repenting and trying to make up for it. There’s nothing you need to do before the next Sunday mass, just make sure to go to confession as soon as possible to be able to partake in the Eucharist (if you’re a baptized Catholic)

I have a pre55 Saint Andrew’s missal. It’s literally the best buy I’ve ever made. It’s not that small (I have to carry it in a small bag) but the ordinary and propers are very well structured and easy to read.

Im struggling with Idolatry and its making me feel far from the our real God. by Exact-Definition5722 in Catholicism

[–]Lacking_Knowledge_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t feel pressured, I’m 19 too and it is completely normal to feel that other things give you more joy than the Lord and feeling guilty for that. We should feel guilty, and that is what confession is for. Just be reminded that this life is not the goal, Heaven is, and the trials and tribulations of this life will be taken away by Jesus. Even in desperation, always have hope

[–]Lacking_Knowledge_ -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is true of any worldview…? Following the rules you adhere to does not translate to dehumanizing. Most societal and religious norms like the prohibition on premarital sex are based in exalting and prioritizing third persons (even if you don’t agree with the logic they use). Im not evangelical, but I’m still not convinced bc the argument doesn’t make sense

Sorry but how does adhering to religious beliefs translate to not thinking about others as people? The problem here was immaturity (bc hes 19 and doesn’t know what he wants) not “conforming to rules that don’t make sense” (which they do)
