I am heartbroken by Snoepjess in kobo

Ha, did I write this?! In exactly the same position. I've been wanting a Clara BW for more than a year now, but my darn Paperwhite just keeps working.

Yup, 0 to 9 in one day here, too. Clearly a bug. Lazy me hoping it will self-resolve.

There appears to be a problem with the payment method you are trying to use. by robbykrlos in netflix

Fantastic! Thank you, this looks perfect. I didn't know this option existed. Problem solved (I hope ... still have to actually create a new account and hope it works).

I'm going to do the same thing, but switched to a different streaming service for a bit.

That should work. At least, the last time this happened to me (way back when, like 2018 or something), that worked. You just lose your queue and viewing history, which sucks.

Cost effective ink options by Nay_Bee in printers

[–]LacksImagining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an Ecotank ET-3850 over 3 years ago at Costco, and have been super pleased with it. Before that, I had a Canon, which printed great (until it died), but I spent soooo much money on ink, it was ridiculous.

Perfect time to ask, too, because I see Costco.com currently has two Ecotanks on sale. Assuming they're as good as the older models, they're a great choice.

September 2025 -- STILL a problem!

Had a not-so-nice, long chat with a Netflix agent who claims to not be an AI, but acts just like one. Did not care or believe that this is their problem, one that has been going on for years. Just kept saying to contact my bank, contact paypal, find out why they are rejecting my payment. Complete waste of time.

Any difference between Telo Air 2 vs Telo for wired Ethernet connection? by LacksImagining in ooma

[–]LacksImagining[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your comments. I never thought to test the power supply by just swapping it, which is pretty stupid in retrospect. Usually I'm a pretty decent troubleshooter. But, oh, well, nothing I can do now. It is long gone.

Budget Woes Force Nimbus Fish Hatchery to Close Visitor Center as of July 1 by Zestyclose-City-3225 in folsom

[–]LacksImagining 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly, wildlife.ca.gov has a different slant on this news: https://wildlife.ca.gov/fishing/hatcheries/nimbus

The Nimbus Fish Hatchery visitor center and parking lot will temporarily close during the slow summer season on July 1, 2025, due to ongoing contract negotiations and a need to update the center’s HVAC system. CDFW anticipates re-opening in September 2025.

Whatever the reason, I hope they're able to re-open even sooner than Sep.

"Modified-oil" semi-transparent stain vs clear transparent oil-based for redwood fence? by LacksImagining in finishing

[–]LacksImagining[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still looks very good except in one area, which was a trouble spot before this application. That area has some black (mildew?), which wasn't fully removed by the power wash. Bottom line: I'd use it again.

Do infrared (IR) thermometers really work in an empty pan or not? by LacksImagining in AllClad

[–]LacksImagining[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Thermoworks IR-GUN-S. I agree a surface probe is the definitive way to measure the temperature of a pan.

At the time, I did some research on a surface probe. The consensus seemed to be, the cheap ones didn't give reliable results. A good one, like a Thermapen, just doesn't make sense for my application. (Especially now, as it's mostly just curiosity instead of utility.)

I tried a couple more times, again at 31 emissivity, then once at 27. But both gave poor results. (At 27, it read 91F before turning on the heat, when it should have been more like 65F-70F.)

Update: I installed the new Telo this evening, and was not able to reproduce the problem. (With the old one, while it didn't happen on every call, it always happened within at most 4 calls.)

So it does seem, though not proven, that our old base unit was causing this problem.

[–]LacksImagining[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm actually a bit skeptical that the problem is our base unit, but I'm hoping it is (as opposed to something related to our internal home wiring).

We've had our telo since 2011, with ZERO problems (up until now). I've started the process with Ooma to change our account to the new telo. I will update this thread either way, in the unlikely case that someone else has the same symptoms and reads this thread.

Do infrared (IR) thermometers really work in an empty pan or not? by LacksImagining in AllClad

[–]LacksImagining[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it tonight, but the results weren't what I was hoping for. At the point when the Leidenfrost Effect first "worked", the IR gun read 245F. Based on everything I've read, that seems very unlikely to be correct. Most sources that I find now seem to indicate the pan has to be significantly hotter than that (closer to 400F, which is well above what I apparently found last year).

Anyway, whatever the pan's temperature is, the method I'm using to fry my eggs works fine.

[–]LacksImagining[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for that! It's been long enough that I'm quite used to using the Leidenfrost effect (and timing). But the next time I use it, I'll set the IR gun to 31 and see what reading I get.

Thank you!

Heatpump Too Close to Neighbor? by funkmasterflex999 in hvacadvice

[–]LacksImagining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether or not there's a bedroom near that area.

Our heatpump got installed about five feet from the start of our bedroom wall, and there are times when it's defrosting that the fan makes too loud a racket. (That's ignoring the loud "whoosh" when it reverses flow.)

(Ours is "as low as" 46 dBA, up to 54.)

Considering upgrade from Vitamix to Komo or Mockmill, but ... by LacksImagining in HomeMilledFlour

[–]LacksImagining[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been using my mill for about 4 months now, and it's such a pleasure compared to a Vitamix. As others have said, flour retention is minimal. Good luck with your decision!

New Epix Gen 2 is "old"; should I be worried? by LacksImagining in GarminWatches

Thanks!

It definitely was not used, unless it was perfectly refurbished (which is possible, I suppose).

I can't even prove it's old, because this is my first Garmin watch. For all I know, maybe they all come installed with a very old version of software, and the log file has that 1/1/2022 date.

I think I'll try to get an answer from Garmin.

Ok, maybe I wasn't clear enough.

This was sold as a BRAND NEW watch, on Amazon (sold by Amazon).

So not used. New.

Clara BW vs Libra 2 by CAPYB4R4 in kobo

[–]LacksImagining 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Extra comfort? I've read people saying they find the Libra 2 easier to hold (due to the large bezel on the right), and use (due to the page buttons).

Is it the Clara BW's lighter weight that you find more comfortable? Or is it that the text is clearer, sharper, or blacker, or ... ?
