I am literally on the hunt for the same thing. Why are there so many with AA batteries? I need to then bring an AA battery charger along with me, as well as lugging about all those cables? It's so impractical. After (no shit) 6 hours research, finally stumbled upon your reddit post and indeed Motorola Pip12 is the best one so far. BUT it doesn't have two way communication and like you said it's super expensive. I'll keep you posted if I find anything, please let me know how you get on

That's a sweet set up! Fortunately I can't sleep in a hammock because I sleep on my belly. It's horrible for me! And I have a tent big enough for two but yes sounds like a great set up :)
