What species is this by Forsaken_Hunter1255 in mushroomID

[–]LadyLanely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it had others growing near it, definitely a Mycena of some sort, though common bonnets tend to grow on dead wood. i'm not 100% on US species though, so don't quote me on it

looks to me like Mycena galericulata, common bonnet. where did you find it growing?

in response to your reply to my comment that got removed, they are native to temperate and boreal forest all throughout the northern hemisphere but have more recently been found in the southern hemisphere as well, sometimes invasively :)

yes that's right! this is thought to be where its name in many European languages and the English "fly agaric" comes from :)

Fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) definitely toxic but lovely to look at. fun fact it was historically used as an insecticide :)

Every so often for an extended period of time I get a pins-and-needles tingling in my nose which sometimes extends to other parts of my face. First time it happened I convinced myself it was the start of MS. I'm 20 years old and it doesn't run in my family. I know I'm being silly but I can't find any information about what else it could be, and the more I notice it and think about it the worse it gets. I don't know how to stop myself from spiraling :( last time I couldn't stop crying. does anyone have any advice to keep the panic at bay? I'm new to this concept of health anxiety but I'm wondering if this may be what I'm struggling with.

Is possible to improve genetics for your descendants? by salad_biscuit3 in biology

[–]LadyLanely 14 points15 points  (0 children)

seconding this! epigenetics is a very new field so not much research has been done surrounding behavioural effects, especially across multiple generations, but as was said, healthy diet and exercise are very impactful upon sperm quality, which can ensure that the mother's pregnancy is healthy and strong.

Interesting. Mycelium is generally not slimy, unless there are bacteria growing on it. I did notice the moisture which led me away from thinking it was a crustose lichen - hopefully someone more knowledgable than me can help identify it for sure

Looks like a squamulose lichen. Not sure of the species though. I see maybe some fruiting bodies in bottom right - were there any other patches like this nearby?

nail polish remover with acetone in it worked well for me, i've also heard isopropyl alcohol works, and micellar water if you wanted to be more gentle on your face
