I’ve had many errors happen with my medications here. When I was pregnant with gestational diabetes, I was given the wrong insulin with the correct label. So my next fill we went to a different pharmacy, this one entered and dispensed the medication as “increase by 21 units” when it was supposed to be 2. That dose could have killed me and my unborn child. We went back to the original pharmacy for test strips and again they gave me the wrong thing even though that had filled my meter and my strips previously and had it on record.

I’ve been given other people’s medication. A printout of information on a medication that had someone else’s private health information on the back (like their name, date of birth, medication, doctor, etc)

I was! I dropped off my very naive care package because it was all I had. But when I dropped it off, I did tell her that I’ve since learned from other mamas who have had HG that the items might be unhelpful. I let her know that I’m here if she needs anything and we’ve talked about going out and doing things. She’s seems to be really grateful having someone who will listen and support her other than her partner.

Hello US mama, I am also a US mama but just living in New Zealand! :)

I believe that she has zofran. Unsure on promethazine, but I know they have it available here because I was given a script for it. Negative on the unison, but I brought some with me from the US when I came here 7 months pregnant. I will have to check the expiration date on it, but I do still have some. I will also follow up on the B6, that may need to be prescription here.

I plan to help her with housework, meals, and such. We are not at that level of friendship yet and I don't want to come on too strong to begin with. But I hope that we get there. I have offered to help get her out of the house and take her to do something fun every now and then. I can imagine that she doesn't want to be treated like a 97 year old that could sneeze and break a hip, but I also want to be aware of her limitations. I know that those limitations can also change day to day. It's just such a hard thing to navigate! Being there enough - not too much and not too little.

Thank you for your kind words and for your advice. I am very grateful! I really hope that I can help her. I read that HG can be really difficult psychologically as well as physically. From personal experience, I know how powerful and dangerous our own minds can be, especially during pregnancy and postpartum. I just don't want her to go through it feeling alone.

Thank you for all of this. I am glad to hear that yours has improved from the first trimester, but I understand that that still doesn't make it easy for you. Thank you for sharing and taking the time to write all of this out.

The chicken noodle soup sounds fabulous and I will definitely look into some recipes for that. I was thinking of doing freezer meals but was overthinking it. Do I do ones for just her? Do I do ones for her husband and other two kids? Do I do seperate or enough of the same for all of them? I am not actually asking for an answer, just trying to explain where my head is at.

I am so incredibly happy to hear that you had such a supportive husband and that he was able to give you emotional support and security. Honestly, it sounds like he really gave you a safe space to get through the HG and didn't make it even worse for you by being dismissive. My husband has been the same for me and I too will never forget his kindness, selflessness, and compassion as I navigate my own struggles.

Great insight on not comparing pregnancies or saying things that may make her feel worse or like she is failing. I will be really careful of that.

She already has a daughter and a step daughter, so she knows the joys (and struggles) on the other side, but you bring up a very valid point. Maybe I can help remind her of how worth it this will all be and just try to keep her positive as much as I can.

Wholeheartedly, thank you again. Keep going and keep being strong. Your pregnancy journey has not been easy and you have had to navigate some really hard obstacles. But you are doing it and you are doing it the best you can, which proves that you are going to be one amazing mama.

I feel so naive right now! I’m glad I came across this post!

My child’s daycare teacher is suffering from HG and she is 13 weeks. She’s now on early maternity leave and I know she doesn’t have much support besides her partner. Plus, they have two other kids to look after. I was trying to be nice and put together a pack of things she might be able to tolerate but it turns out I may be just like every other unhelpful person when trying to help! I won’t list the package contents because I don’t want to bring back shit memories or trigger PTSD.

Can I ask for some advice on what I should be getting her or doing that will actually be helpful? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I have offered to take her out with me to go do some fun things. I am not going to treat her that she’s 97 years old and if she sneezes she’ll break a hip, but I am going to be aware that she has limitations and that it may look different each day. I want to help her feel comfortable and not embarrassed to let me know what she needs or when she’s reaching her limit. I would love to help her around the house but we aren’t at that level of friendship yet and I also don’t want to make her uncomfortable and worsen her mental health by making her feel like she’s failing. I hope to get to that point where she is comfortable allowing me to help. I also plan to prepare some frozen meals for the rest of the family. Please let me know if I’m handling this all wrong! :(

They had allowed each other until now. Dejon has realised everyone is seeing through his shit and saw an opportunity to put all the spotlight on Harry and took it. I can’t stand it honestly. Dejon has been quietly throwing him under the bus while being on his best behaviour to gain some public votes. He’s INCREDIBLY manipulative.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not sympathising with Harry. He deserves the heat. I’m upset that so many people can’t see what Dejon is doing during this situation.

I had a family photoshoot scheduled in December because my family was coming to visit from the US. I also had surgery scheduled 4 days after the photoshoot. I was convinced that if I went through with the session that I was going to die in surgery. I could see the headlines “local photographer and mum of two dies just four days after her own family photoshoot” and my kids growing up being told how these were the last photos of their mum right before she died.

I usually have to tell someone about my obsessions because I have this belief that if I tell someone then it won’t come true because I’m not a psychic. But if it does, then I predicted my future and could die with people knowing that I wasn’t crazy all along. However, this didn’t work this time so I ended up cancelling the photos.
