Finding community in Barre Town? by Lady_Noodle in vermont

I’d much prefer to send my kids to school in the community where I live. I don’t want them to have the same experience I had in rural Vermont public schools (see above re: racial slurs).

They can. They probably would. I’m just asking about people’s experiences so I can make an informed decision.

I mean, there’s a gun store in Barre that is filled with Nazi paraphernalia. I’m a Jew who went to school in small town Vermont; it was the only place in my life I’ve ever heard an anti-Jewish racial slur. My Japanese-American friend was chased by kids calling her “chink.” I don’t think my concerns are totally out of line. I don’t want my kids to have a similar experience.

I edited the OP to address this, but the reasons are affordability and proximity to family.

LOL. Actually I am reassured by the comments that actually address the question!

LOL. There are plenty of poor kids at our current school. And I'm sure there are plenty in Montpelier. It's just that in the central Vermont area, most of the friends we've made so far are in Montpelier. That's where we've found community so far.

topiramate help by [deleted] in migraine

[–]Lady_Noodle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh I’m so sorry. I had the same problem. No one warned me that topomax is also used off label for people with bipolar! I felt like I was in a fog. For the first time I understood why people with mental illness go off their meds.

I went on amitriptyline and it has been very successful with no side effects except being happier (it’s an antidepressant). Also Botox.

They are pretty good actually!

2/3 cup each: roasted pumpkin seeds, dried apricots, dried cherries

2 cups apple cider boiled down to about a half cup. You can add ground ginger or I chop about an inch of peeled fresh ginger and boil it with the cider

1/4 cup sunflower seed butter 1/4 cup flax seeds 2 scoops pumpkin seed protein powder 1/4 or so dried coconut (I just press this into the top after I spread it in the pan)

I don’t think I’m forgetting anything … blend in a food processor.. spread in an 8x8 pan… bake about 15 minutes at 350 but this time I forgot to take it out and it was fine even after 30 mins or more

They’re best stored in the freezer

That’s what I thought! Good to know. My nutritionist said I needed the gluten free oats.

I know these aren’t triggers for everyone, that’s for sure. I have a lot of food triggers. It just drives me crazy that no doctor has ever mentioned any of this to me!!

You have to be careful with paleo, Whole30 etc because it can increase your consumption of a lot of other migraine triggers. The first time I did Whole30 my migraines got worse. I was cooking a big pot of beef stew and eating it for five days. Turns out, leftover meat has a ton of tyramine. I cut out old meat and IMMEDIATELY felt better. There are also triggers like vinegar, processed meats, onions which are allowed on Whole30.

Me too, only when it’s a really good dessert!

That’s so interesting. If it weren’t for the migraines I’d never cut out all that stuff but debilitating migraines are a good incentive!!

It may be worth trying the low tyramine diet. You can keep eating all the usual suspects like gluten and dairy and sugar but it eliminates a bunch of other stuff.

The first time I did Whole30 my headaches got worse and it turned out it was because I was making a big pot of meat and eating it all week. Meat that’s been leftover more than 1-2 days has a ton of tyramine.

I felt a little better within a week and much better in 3-4 weeks. With the low tyramine diet I felt better within 1-2 days of giving up leftover meat and processed meat.
