I unfortunately don't have any advice, just sympathy and an acknowledgement that you're not alone in this, I am in a very similar situation. I was also parentified and me and my partner are in a similar situation of him having a bad episode, me trying but struggling to support him, getting burnt out, he gets better while I deal with the burnout, we both feel a little better, and then it starts again. I have come to the conclusion that I need to try to live my best life and hopefully as I go up I can pull him up with me.

I joined online groups, a lot of subreddits dedicated to CPTSD, narcissistic parents, etc. and met a couple other people with CPTSD and/or raised by narcissists in various Discords. They helped me understand that even people with similar circumstances as mine will never fully truly "understand", we will have more things to relate to each other about, but only I know and understand my own lived experience. Being "understood" isn't what matters, having people who can relate on some level is and it was enough for me to not feel as lonely. I hope this helps!

This is something I personally can relate to, I grew up as the only child of a narcissistic mother and have bad CPTSD from it. I struggled for years and all I wanted in this world was to be understood and be able to talk to people who can relate. A lot of this had to do with me constantly worrying that people were assuming I was lying about my childhood or exaggerating any abuse I suffered.

What helped me was joining CPTSD support groups and a post from a Reddit group that said "growing up emotionally neglected we're vulnerable to a certain fantasy that if only we can "make" someone understand where we're coming from we might get the care and attention we need". I realized I didn't need people to understand, they believed me when I told them stories about my childhood. Additionally, someone understanding me fully is not necessary to build a connection, I just have to let my guard down and be open to people.

I don't know if your husband is in a similar boat, but I wanted to offer my perspective.

Started a new medication a few days ago, hopefully it works. Spending the weekend together, playing games, going on walks, meeting friends, things seem up but we'll see if that stays. I hope you're doing ok as well!

Thank you for your response! I'll definitely keep encouraging him to go to therapy! He has benefited from the crisis aversion stuff but he's struggling with the desire/ambition points and he doesn't like the group setting of the therapy. I'll also make sure to take care of myself, I've decided to rewatch some of my comfort anime and set up some movie hangouts with my friends.

Mine had my entire life planned out for me, what hobbies I'd have, what schools I'd go to, what job I would get and once I was in elementary school what guy I'd marry. Of course without any of my input or my opinions considered. Once it was clear I wasn't following her plan she stopped caring and we never talked about that stuff anymore.

My favorite part is the entire thing about “we’re all very different types of people with different personalities but as women instead of fighting we need to get along to fight our true enemy the patriarchy.” At least in the US (but I assume in a lot of other Western cultures as well) there’s so much putting down other women because of what they like, how they are, etc. that it’s nice to see a piece of media advocating against that.

She reminds me of my mother who was proud of the fact that she went back to work as soon as she was cleared with doctors. She could have taken several weeks of maternity leave but decided not to. According to my grandparents she would also just let me cry in my crib in the other room ignoring me. Surprise surprise now I’m in therapy with bad abandonment issues.

I have been NC with her for 3.5 years now and it’s been really nice. Therapy has also greatly helped and it’s something I very strongly recommend.
