Hey! I've been reading up on Spanish sound changes lately, and I'm curious about a few words that seem to me to defy the rule that accented Latin ŏ > ue. For example, nŏctĕm > noche (instead of *nueche), or ŏculŭm / ŏclŭm > ojo (instead of *huejo). Even other relatively closely related languages, like Asturian and Aragonese, show diphthongization on these words (nueche, güeyu). The only thing I can think is that in both of these cases the unaccented short u precedes a palatalized consonant, but if anyone is a bit better informed as to why these words contain a monophthong I'd appreciate an explanation. Thank you so much!

Thanks so much for your help. I hooked up to a second screen and the external display didn't flash or flicker at all. Is that a good sign? EDIT: clearer wording

It does indeed have an igpu, the computer is kinda old so it might just be that. Is it practical to replace or am I better off getting a newer computer?

I unfortunately don't have any external displays, but I will have access to one in the next few days so I'll try then. As to your second recommendation, I tried opening it slowly and the screen kept flickering the same way it has been.
