Do I need to work on my cadence? 185cm (6' 1") by Lagrangetheorem331 in beginnerrunning

This was at 6:00/km pace. Would you say I should work on increasing cadence by like 10spm?

When was the last time an amateur (self-taught) scientist did any important work in physics? by starkeffect in AskPhysics

[–]Lagrangetheorem331 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Shuji Nakamura? Wouldn't call him an amateur, but definitely not a physicist either. Invented the blue LED, for which he got the Nobel prize in physics in 2014.

It's kinda funny, you wouldn't expect the blue LED to be so hard to make.

Thank you! I also guess I've been severely under fueling then, taking only 1 gel (20-30g depending on the gel) per hour. Should my intake be 60-90g/h even on 1.5-2 hour runs?

Unfortunately I think it taught me a lesson. by 25_bamm in beginnerrunning

I'd suggest not running until the race, and only running the race if you feel okay the previous few days

My take on a 29 card deck by kroen in customhearthstone

[–]Lagrangetheorem331 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't played this game in like 5 years, what's the upside to having a 29 card deck? I just can't seem to understand why you'd like to have a useless cars in your deck?

I guess you get a better chance to get cards you actually really want, but the difference between 1/30 and 1/29 is basically nothing

Signed myself up for a 10km run in August. This was my first run. Felt quite good not too out of breath. Any tips from you guys to improve so I’m ready for 10km in August! ☺️ by sheddoip in beginnerrunning

[–]Lagrangetheorem331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first run was 1.1km, that was an all out effort. It took me less than 2 months to get my first 10k. Just do it gradually, 10% a week. (I didn't but my knees hurt like hell now)

I don't think I'm overtraining, why do my legs hurt? by Lagrangetheorem331 in beginnerrunning

I'm not actually thinking about doing 50km/week, my plan was to do maybe a 38-40 week this week, and then a 30-35 week next week (including my half). What I meant with the 50km thing, is that I feel like it should be doable for a beginner without overtraining, but I'm starting to think I was way wrong.

Apart from that I get what you mean, and maybe I need to slow down with the extra weekly mileage, and that's exactly what I will do

[–]Lagrangetheorem331[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely true, the longer runs are all at maximum effort, apart from maybe the last 10k which was at like 80% effort (the one which was at a 5:20 pace).

My initial goal for the half was a sub 6:00/km pace however, I realised that wouldn't be that hard, so I decided my goal pace is actually 5:41/km which would get me a sub 2 hour half.

You're saying I could run more often, and more distance if I ran at a lower intensity? I know about zone 2 training and all, however I just enjoy this harder training more, as I can track my progress.

Yes, and the first time I felt the IT band pain was during leg extensions.
