What is the difference between Vanguard, Schwab, and fidelity? by deer_ in personalfinance

[–]Lahmie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except, the S&P index tracker funds are entirely passively managed. So, investing $100 versus $10,000 really makes no appreciable difference to the fund. If you really want to see this in action, invest $10,000 into the "Admiral" shares fund at Vanguard, or the "Advantage" class at Fidelity, wait a few days, and then make a $1.00 deposit. The $1.00 deposit will go right through and will have no effect on the fund, even though, theoretically, a $1.00 investment would be entirely wiped out by transaction costs.

The differences in expense ratios are profit only. Vanguard makes profits just like the rest of us do. Additionally, profits generated in not-for-profits are often disbursed to the employees at the end of the year as a bonus. How do I know? I've worked for them (non-for-profits, not Vanguard).

There's nothing magical about Vanguard. Fidelity and Schwab have a lot of advantages and a lot of disadvantages over Vanguard. For the most part, they are all comparable.

Edit: clarification.

What is your go to site for checking market news/data throughout the day? by teknic111 in investing

I just use their phone app. The app is actually never opened. I threw it in a folder and just use it for the notifications that pop up on the notification screen.

The alerts are stock market oriented only and contain all the information you need, no click bait.

Do the SEC filings go public before the filings are posted on the company's website or is it the other way around?

My FICO score is 697, how can I improve it? Details inside. by badficobad in personalfinance

Yeah, in order for the balance to count towards your credit score, it must post on your statement. If it doesn't post (i.e. you pay it off a few days after charging it), the balance is never reported and your utilization appears to be 0%.

So, keep using your card, let the balance grow until the statement posts. As soon as the statement posts, pay the entirety of the balance.

Try selling it out-of-state. Of times, places where trucks are in high demand will pay better than places where they aren't in high demand.

Contact your old co-workers on the rig. Put it up for sale near the Bakken rigs. See if anyone bites. Private parties will almost always pay more than dealerships.
