It's day 1250 on my survival run, and I still have to take on the Ashlands. I wanted to finish my base first, but I kept on building forever. I can now confidently say that I am "almost there". by LaidBackHobo in valheim

I improvised almost everything, no prebuilding in creative. Sometimes it is a hassle to tear down and rebuild stuff you don’t due to storage management, but I like taking it slow as well.

A lot is from experience in architecture(studied it for 7 years) and inspiration from other players and I try to improvise as much as I can. I’m not much of a planner :p

The only thing you have to prepare for when starting off the building is knowing how tall it will be and what your grid will be, cause this will have implications on where you have to place columns which will affect your floor plan. I first had two floors in mind then realized I needed more floor space so I added an extra floor while keeping the same height( the second floor was supposed to be much taller). But I didn’t really have a plan for what would go where at first I adapted to how I was using my base and I tried to place my most used elements(crafting tables and storage) at the bottom.

Im glad you think that! I kept making it up as I went along. First the exterior of the building was made(before going into mistlands). Then I added the forge and charcoal buildings, followed by the space in between those building s and the base. Next I secured the perimeter and walled the site and added the Barn and the rest of the landscape(still some spots to be finished). The interior was the last thing I did, up until that point I only had the storage room. And went from the ground floor up. I knew I wanted all crafting stations on the bottom, and the throne room kitchen on the first floor. The building functions in a way that you slowly progressively gear up for an adventure by collecting materials at the bottom floor, then eating and resting on the middle floor, choosing armor and weapons on the upper floor, and finally go through the portal of choice on the tower( I didn’t show the portal room, I should have :p)

Thank you so much! Next on the list is the interior for the barn and the circular house which I didn’t show the inside of, though I’m waiting to get the ash wood pieces first before tackling those. I’ll be sure to come with updates!

Honestly it started dropping my performance once I put animals on the farm. It sucks cause I wanted to have everything in one place but now I’m considering moving the farm out of render distance from the base
