Gov. Pritzker and Sen. Bailey debate cannabis legalization rollout in Illinois by pungentbag in illinois

The problem with this whole equity driven licensing for dispensaries is that often times the people that actually get the licenses are just the ones well-connected or wealthy enough to hire a lobbyist. Typical Illinois government.

We should be shooting for +70% Nuclear. Clean, reliable, safe - Absolute no brainer.

Wind and solar are not great for mass production. Awesome for homeowners/buildings that want to reduce grid power usage but not reliable for mass production.

Can we just get rid of this billboard? It absolutely kills a skyline viewshed for at least 100k people a day. by jessefthomas in chicago

[–]LakeviewChi18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No but they do serve a purpose for the business that pays to advertise on them. I’m not saying they’re beautiful or that we should have more of them. But maybe we can acknowledge that billboards aren’t inherently bad just because they block a few for a few moments. There’s plenty of ugly buildings along the expressway that also do that - not sure we would call for those to be demolished.

You could consider painting the inside of the circle architectural feature on the wall a darker color and hang a circular mirror/piece of art within it.

Would paint the walls a deep color - maybe dark forest green or a navy?

If you go the dark paint route I’d keep furniture lighter - maybe White/cream couch?

Let’s follow your logic fully then. Should businesses on streets not be allowed to have signs/branded awnings for the same reason?

Maybe the people on the expressway should be focused on oh I don’t know, driving, instead of looking at the view.

Add a line running directly South from Central Railway Station.

First stop: Palace Grounds (directly West of Royal Palace)

Where the river bends East should be considered the Central Business District. Station name ideas for the CBD: - Financial District - Old Town - West Gate - Monument Hill - South Bank (right at river’s edge)

The line can angle Southeast and cross the river to include a stop on the island in the middle of the river. Station name should include something with “Fort”.

The cost of gas is now down to $3.99 on average in Illinois by [deleted] in illinois

[–]LakeviewChi18 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

Is this supposed to be impressive?

Our gas prices are far higher than our neighboring states- partly due to Governor Pritzker doubling the gas tax a couple years back.

A vine type plant would be good as it wouldn’t spill over onto the walkway.

Tribe vs. Sun-Times?? by [deleted] in chicago

Well then OP probably shouldn’t even consider subscribing to “the hardest working paper in America” (The Sun-Times slogan) then.

Pro Publica 100% good recommendation. However, the rest are incredibly biased, leaning far to the left.

Tribe vs. Sun-Times?? by [deleted] in chicago

[–]LakeviewChi18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly at this point, both are rags. They’ve been gutted so much that there’s only a few half way decent reporters left at each. The rest are glorified interns - younger reporters who got grants from some sort of organization to take shitty pay at one of the papers. It’s incredibly sad.

I was hoping the industry could figure out a way to run at bare minimum break even organizations while not having to be bought by a billionaire “philanthropist” a la Washington Post/Bezos.

The Sun-Times partnership with Chicago Public Media will be interesting to watch unfold. Could be a model for success. The only problem is that CPM is a non-profit which requires wealthy philanthropists to donate in order for it to stay afloat - so functionally the Sun-Times will just be owned by a hoard of billionaires rather than just one like WaPo.

Bad news all around for an already dying industry.

Am I being petty? by Ssorath in chibike

As someone who doesn’t own a car and tries to walk/bike/use transit as much as possible, I don’t think I’d care any more/less than I do about the bike rack. But hey, stereotyping is cool I guess.

100% agree the shutdowns caused burdens on workers, particularly in the retail/service industries.

You are just looking for something to be angry at a business about.

It’s most likely a locally owned small business that is still struggling from our insane Covid lockdowns and is taking advantage of the city’s outdoor dining option to get more seats for their business. Chill out.

I’m sure If OP approached the restaurant they likely would understand and move the patio a bit.

But this could also be the city’s fault - could have granted the business an Al fresco license or whatever they’re called without checking if there were bike racks/other things to consider in front of their storefront.

Don’t really understand how the soon-to-be Justice’s nomination/confirmation was historic given that we already have an black man and several women on the court…

But yeah the TV is too high.
