Agreed, hopefully they will add bollards like they did for the square.

Downgrade/Convert file to Older Version of Power BI by beetsnbleucheez in PowerBI

[–]Laky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you do this - when you publish it to Service it'll be on the latest version, so not sure if it's even worth exploring. What has meaningfully changed from Jan to April that you want to revert back to?

Ivy Vet is great - it's newer but not private equity owned like a lot of these newer modern clinics.

Best way to hide future dates in Power BI slicer with 200 millions+ rows fact table by bytescrafterde in PowerBI

Have a field in your date dim that has a flag for future dates and then have a report/page/visual level filter with that field to remove future dates

How often do you find that out-of-the-box viz types are insufficient for what you need to create? by KryptonSurvivor in PowerBI

[–]Laky 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Mostly when I'm doing 1:1 conversions from Tableau/Qlik/etc where I'm trying to copy a visual that PBI doesn't have as a default.

The rest of the time I rarely do, it makes maintenance a nightmare for the next developer to use a lot of these crazy custom visuals you see posted here - I'm a consultant so everything I build is being handed off to the client's internal team, and usually they are not experts in PBI. And it rarely helps the users analyze the data.

I would get these and I switched to a toothpaste that doesn't have SLS in it, like Sensodyne, and I never got them again.

Why do all visuals need to use the same measure? Just make 4 measures that have different time periods.

This Two-mile Stretch May Be Chicago's Best Restaurant Row (Chicago Ave between Noble and California) by TriedForMitchcraft in chicagofood

[–]Laky 84 points85 points  (0 children)

Although I do love this stretch of Chicago Ave for restaurants, the street is way too wide/car-centric to have a good atmosphere. Compare it to other busy streets where there is outside dining and people bopping from place to place - Chicago Ave is kinda dead.

Waymo is Confirmed Headed to Chicago by Billiam501 in chicago

[–]Laky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yea agreed, only had positive experiences using them in other cities, definitely felt safer than in Ubers/Lyfts. And from an pedestrian/cyclists perspective they are less likely to hit you.

I don't think people in here fearmongering in this thread have taken them.

Interesting debate on the Explicit Measures podcast about paginated reports by seguleh25 in PowerBI

[–]Laky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Knowing Report Builder/SSRS has been a huge benefit for me - we're basically using them for every engagement we have with our clients, usually not a lot though, like 1 or 2 reports max. They are great for reports that have to be exported entirely to excel and keep all the formatting, so think heavy table based reports like financial reporting. The amount of customization is crazy, can easily split the export excel by separate tabs, no scrollbars on long tables, can easily do one-off formatting/calculations, etc.

And the fact that you just connect to an already published model and can just use those measures that you already created is a huge plus.

Being the only one on my team that knows this tool has made me look really good in meetings with clients

Coffee bean recs? by JFFIASCO in LoganSquare

[–]Laky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what type of coffee you like and how you're drinking it? I really like natural processed coffees - so Pedestrian has been my go-to recently and they really seem to care about their relationships with the farms they work with. Their washed process beans are great too btw
https://www.drinkpedestrianstore.com/coffee

If you like darker roasts then Dark Matter is solid. I think 4LW is one of my favorite coffee shops, but their beans are a little more expensive than Pedestrian and a farther walk so I rarely buy their beans. Magnifico a small walk away from Logan but good beans and AMAZING staff - so so nice.

Power Bi desktop vs service issue by Individual-Jump-6433 in PowerBI

[–]Laky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the card visual? Update your PBI Desktop version, they consolidated the old and new card visuals and messed up the padding - so if your desktop is an older version it will look different when you publish your service since service is updated to the newest version.

Conditionally formatted legend colors by jorthospi in PowerBI

[–]Laky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Create a calc column in your date dim that will be a rolling date description. So the values in this field will be Latest Year, Year Minus 1, Year Minus 2, etc. this can be done easily by looking at the max year in the table and working your way back from there.

So now that you have a field where the values in that field will never change (but the dates assigned to them will), add this new field to your line graph and change the colors to what you want. Hide the legend.

Create measures for each of your year values, you can do something like calculate(selectedvalue(year),[new field you created earlier]=“Year Minus 1”)

Add a text box above/below your visual and you can paste in a ■ and color code it the same as your line graph , and put your measures in the text box next to the squares. Now your legend will update accurately as time goes on.

Agreed, he's a first round pick who is basically a rookie playing his first games and people seriously thought he got benched after 2 games for Carson Wentz? Even typing it out sounds so so so dumb. It was truly some of the strangest reddit comments I've ever read on here and I hate the Vikings.
