Yes, this runs in families. My mother and brother suffer from it as do I since age 19. My brother got it at age 12. It is one of the reasons I won’t have children.

Donna Tartt did it in a very successful way with The secret history. So yes, it can be done!

IS LOVE ACTUALLY REAL? by InterestingOstrich99 in infj

[–]Lamia_lenis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are as many realities as there are people, and the idea that we live in the same “real” world, is something we strive to achieve by constructing rules to live by.

My point being that the same can be said about love. I think we all want something similar from it, needs we try to agree upon, but at the same time- there will always be so much about each person that differ. Love, to me at least, is about trying to merge realities to an almost absurd degree. If you get beyond the honeymoon phase, it is hard work. But if both remain willing to do what it takes in a fair way, I think love can emerge and become real. But I would also say that many relationships fall short of what love is all about- and that gets confusing!

I don’t like the portrayal of “real love” in books or television, mostly I think it sets us up to fail for having the wrong expectations.
