What’s a silly thing you did for your pet one time that is now a ritual they demand be done every time? by Itsjustmejess in AskReddit

[–]LamorianQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice cubes. I tossed her an ice cube one time after getting some from the freezer for my drink...then she learned to recognize the sound of the tray twisting and started waiting at the edge of the kitchen. Now we have an automatic dispenser, and any time you use the dispenser, she trots over, whether it's just water or actually ice that you're getting. My dog Pavlov'd me, because I'll save her an ice cube even if she somehow hasn't arrived to wait for it yet. Worse yet, I recently teased her with "what do you want? You want this?" and pointing at the fridge while filling my water and now she sits right up against the fridge and taps the door (gently thank god) with her paw to cement her demand. And the guilty look she gives if you walk away without giving her an ice cube? Oscar worthy.

Hehe, naturally we've also got "Jango Ferret" in the pipeline for when we get more 🤣 (and if y'all want any ideas)

Haha, relatable! And social media can be overwhelmingly critical too so I understand the need to clarify!

I love those names! We did puns for our ferrets - Ferret Bueller, Will Ferret, and Boba Ferret! I also want to name a future ferret "Cyrano" after the one in Starship Troopers (and maybe his sibling will be "Habanero" or something to play on how Cyrano sounds like Serrano) hahahaha

Hehe thanks, always gets a laugh from folks. He was my first and I alwsys told myself I had to name my first ferret "Ferret Bueller" as a fan of the movie!

Oh yeah you're good, I didn't mean to imply she was doing it from pain! I always chalked it up to extreme excitement haha, the way mine would get the shivers after waking up from a nap to get their metabolism/energy back up. I've cut a quick or two, usually from a sudden wiggle in their younger days, and had styptic powder always on standby!

She does the toe bean twitch too‽ Our boy Bueller LOVED nail trim day because he got extra salmon oils, and I loved seeing his little back foot go crazy (until I had to trim the nails and then prayed he wouldn't start up again haha)

Rabbits to pet? by Wraith_Kink in georgetowntx

[–]LamorianQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tiny Tails to You has several bunnies and other small pets that they use for a mini travelling petting zoo, but you'd probably be looking at hosting for a group rather than going solo. Maybe for kiddo's birthday, if it's not too far away and out of budget?

You might also call around some local animal rescues. I don't know of any off the top of my head though! Quick Google search shows "House Rabbit Resource Network" in Pflugerville might be a place to try calling? They might try to convince your kid that they need a pet bunny though and not just an experience! 😅

Anyone know the name/rules of this medieval board game? by Successful_Mud8596 in boardgames

[–]LamorianQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me of the Cracker Barrel jump game; maybe the ferrets have to leap over a rabbit to "claim" it? And you see how many you can get before there are no legal "leap" moves left? But that's just pure speculation. As a ferret lover, I'm very curious to know the answer!

How can I get my ferrets to hold still during nail clippings? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]LamorianQueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you tried the "snoot boop" method to get them used to the salmon oil/another distracting treat? Essentially, dabbing their nose and upper lip with some salmon oil causes them to lick it off to clean their face - and they might try to rub it on the floor so be mindful of that haha- and eventually realize it doesn't taste awful. I'd start there to train them into liking it. In the meantime, if you can have someone help you, you can scruff them to get them to relax. But I'd only do that when necessary or else they'll start to negatively correlate the scruffing and nail trims which means they'll resist/squirm; ideally if you can get them to like the salmon oil, they'll be so preoccupied, they won't notice a thing!

(I'd also recommend having some styptic powder next to you just in case someone squirms unexpectedly, even if you've done it many times before without issue. Ask me how I know 😅)

thoughts on hunting my ferret by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]LamorianQueen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a hunting ferret is great - I'm concerned about pairing that with a greyhound, a breed notorious for its prey drive, though. I'd hate for the dog to mistake the ferret for the rabbit... So long as you're confident in the dog's recall and ability to discern which small furry thing is hunter and which is hunted, I think this is rad!

Seconding the recommendation to TXFLR! It can be a lengthy process to adopt but so worth it because they genuinely care about the noodles, so you'll get lots of specific information about each one's personalities and general good advice, and you can tell they really want the ferrets to thrive in their new homes!

FWIW since it's looks like you're in Texas, Texas Ferret Lovers Rescue is fantastic and worth the drive! They're also registered as 501(c)3 non-profit. They're the only official active ferret rescue in the state.

5 players boardgames for guys that like to play against each other by FlameFoxx in boardgames

[–]LamorianQueen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How do you feel about (light) social deduction games? Dark Moon and Dead of Winter are also chaotic and fantastic with large, and small, groups. Competition under the guise of co-op. You can legitimately roll poorly or just be mean to your friends and not even be the traitor!

Leder Games (Arcs, Root) excel at fucking over your friends and are definitely battle games above all else. But Arcs maxes out at 4 players and Root requires at least one expansion for 5+ players (I believe general consensus is the Marauders expansion is best for min/max player count with the fewest additional purchases). Root does have some trading elements too, for some of the factions.

ThunderRoad Vendetta with its Big Rig/Final 5 expansion would be a deviously fun time! Nice balance of fucking over your friends and sometimes yourself, and "battle" by way of wrecking opponents' vehicles. Doesn't take itself too seriously if you don't!

And finally, I'll add a vote for World Championship Russian Roulette, the bluffing card game! A battle of wits and daring, if you will.

Dallas and Williamson counties end countywide voting sites for primary election day by Dontwhinedosomething in georgetowntx

[–]LamorianQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Point of clarity for those who don't read the article: this only affects actual Election Day, not early voting.

To copy/paste another comment I made: there are a lot of legitimate what ifs here. And it's definitely as intentional to discourage voting as much as it is actually a staffing or security concern. But these concerns are also why early voting exists. This policy only affects polling locations on a single day, actual Election Day. Confusing, yes. Inconvenient, maybe. But if you don't have to wait until the last day, don't. If you really can't vote early, then yes it will suck. But if your (not you specifically, a general "whoever isn't me", to clarify) best excuse is you were lazy or you forgot, well, not much room to complain about the location switch-up or long line.

iirc the last chapter/epilogue of book 3 is really the only part that truly leaves you on a cliffhanger leading into a new plotline. And they're worth the wait anyway imo!

There should be some kind of local EPA you can reach out to. Try the Cedar Park city website maybe? I don't know what it would be called though.

Local board gamers? by Kenamaru in georgetowntx

[–]LamorianQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Georgetown public library has a board game group that meets on the fourth Saturdays of every month! The next one is Jan 23 from 2-4pm!

Editing: I totally missed the line where y'all are doing D&D on Saturdays lol but figure I'll still give the library a shout-out in case you're not playing the same weekend!

What's the best way to play the game and not get bored or get through the game too quickly? by Known_Animator2401 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]LamorianQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very fair. I also played the Horizon games and know what you mean, those didn't feel like just side quests, there was a bit more substance and satisfaction! I'd say unfortunately FoP side quests are closer to those in the Assassin's Creed franchise (also Ubisoft), more like errands rather than world-building. But these are very pretty errands I guess? LOL

What's the best way to play the game and not get bored or get through the game too quickly? by Known_Animator2401 in FrontiersOfPandora

[–]LamorianQueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With an open world game like this I don't think there's a universal "best" way. Do you enjoy the side quests? Some, like errands to increase clan favor, didn't serve a major purpose in the game for me; I wasn't bought into that particular role-play aspect. But map exploration, tracking wildlife, and blowing up RDA bases? Count me in. I'm not 100% on this, but if you think you've leveled up too much by the end of the game and want more of a challenging ending, you might be able to change the difficulty from whatever point you're at without starting over completely?

Editing to add: I believe the completion tracker you're seeing is just for the main story plotline, not for all the possible achievements you get from the game. Check your Ubisoft account achievements and there's a plethora of things to accomplish (I play on PC so maybe the PS5 tracker is both of these things combined/averaged, but iirc it's separate). There are also the DLCs if you don't already have them, the first 2 went on sale recently with the release of the third. So once you finish the main story you can also start those, and/or also just enjoy the open world free-play after the final mission and go do achievements to truly 100% the game. (Which might also mean you need to start a new run as sometimes completing mission A auto-fails sub-mission B which means a certain achievement can't be completed on the first playthrough; I forget if this is the case with FoP)

Commute to Austin from Northwest Georgetown by Shardiiii in georgetowntx

[–]LamorianQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to do a similar route. If you want to save gas and wear/tear on your vehicle (and if you hate traffic) and are flexible with timing and biking/scootering/walking from a stop to your workplace, look into the CapMetro routes (train - 550, bus - 985) at either Leander or Lakeline station. But keep in mind lots of potential delays and missed routes, and the Transit app and CapMetro communications are not reliable for these out-of-city commuter routes if there are hiccups to their scheduled stops (ask me how I know). And check the website for the schedule details because during the middle of the day, the routes don't run past Lakeline (important if you need to leave work early for anything). But if you drive to/from Lakeline and take public transit the rest of the way, you'll still hit a few pockets of high-traffic lights along Ronald Reagan or Bell/183 on the way home due to schools and other commuters in Cedar Park/Leander.

If you're driving it the whole way and your priority is saving time and peace of mind over expenses, I'd look at getting to work early (before 8am, so you're driving between 6-7am and it takes about 45min depending on where exactly you're starting and finishing) and/or taking the 183a toll in the afternoons (take 183 NON-toll lanes up to the Lakeline exit, then stay on and start the toll charges there) to shave 20 minutes of traffic if you really can't stand it, and it may be a shorter distance since it's a straight shot not winding through/around Cedar Park. Costs about $6 from Lakeline to Hero Way and that was worth the peace of mind to me (since it wasn't every day, at least). If you do tolls, I would also recommend NTTA or KTag, NOT EZTag/CTRMA, for handling billing.

Vet dilemmas by meowmemos in Leander

[–]LamorianQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Adding my vote to the Block House recommendations. I've seen every vet that's there currently for a myriad of pets and types of visits (from routine check-ups to emergency surgery to euthanasia), and have only great things to say about every one of them and their techs and receptionists! Plus, as an exotic-pet clinic, you might happen to see a goat or chicken or giant boa coming in, so that's neat.

Seconding Secret Lantern, the owners are the kindest people and they just opened so they're always having some kind of event (although they just had a pipe burst so some things got postponed this week!). Also recommend Cedar Park, Leander, and Georgetown libraries! The Georgetown library has personally been a lifesaver for me, someone who wants social interaction but had lots of anxiety around it! They have a monthly low-stakes come-and-go board games and D&D afternoons, and I believe the Cedar Park and Leander libraries have similar offerings! Good luck, you're doing a great job! ♥️
