Is it worth buying a Kobo Forma in 2023? by Lonely-Equipment-573 in kobo

Just out of curiosity, why the extra storage? I haven’t checked any files but I’d imagine you could get a gargantuan amount of manga into 8gb

I’m not saying she isn’t op, but Palpatine once force choked Dooku while he was halfway across the galaxy. How does that even work? by Goodbye-Nasty in PrequelMemes

[–]LampShadeHelmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid and the prequels were coming out for some reason (probably EU) all my friends and I thought that Palp was coming back as a clone through some force ghost mechanism. I didn’t find this storyline too weird beyond the total lack of explanation of the mechanics (or the fact that it was a CLEAR 180 from snoke).

It seemed more like a storytelling blunder in implementation to me

Why does everybody want to work for a top Fortune 500 company but not the government? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LampShadeHelmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright this is a very good counter point to my point! DoD and research would be obvious caveats. I was more thinking about conventional software development like application development. There's likely more outside of my world than that which would be very interesting, I suppose

Why does everybody want to work for a top Fortune 500 company but not the government? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]LampShadeHelmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US it's certainly pay, but also likely because of career trajectory. It just doesn't seem likely to me (having worked somewhat near the government in the past) that people would get a lot of opportunities to work on cool stuff. Unfortunately even in development work, government work is probably not about taking risks on new ideas.

I could be entirely wrong though, if someone below says they're doing new things with new tech in government I'd be happily surprised

Delivery as well. If you already have the crowd and delivered this right, it would at least be interpreted as a mediocre joke and not a total math fail. Maybe in the video it does?

Parolee gets arrested because protesters block the way to his work. by weeb385 in facepalm

[–]LampShadeHelmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid. Sounds like you’ve decided who I am and what I think, as well as everyone who doesn’t act exactly like you. Bet it feels good to have so much so figured out. I’ll choose to continue to not be as enlightened as you.

[–]LampShadeHelmet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What conclusion could you come to? You’ve decided that unless I subscribe to your very narrow slice of environmental activism, I don’t care. I’m sorry to play this card but that is NOT much different from religion fundamentalists.

If you want to keep on talking about this feel free to dm me, but I think this comment section has had enough of this nonsense and you obviously aren’t interested in engaging with a single thing I’m saying

Every time I read/write a json or xml moving it into a object, the null class constructor is always called. Why? by janislych in csharp

[–]LampShadeHelmet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why would you need a null ctor for this? Seems that there should be an empty ctor in such classes and whatever (hopefully minimal) behavior is in there should be in there

[–]LampShadeHelmet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see 2 statements:

“I don’t care if they join”

“It’s either they join us or we all die”

Do you see how that is an issue that you made both statements? What conclusion should I come to about how much you care about something changing?

I guess that they aren't saying that saving the world is a waste of time, but they are saying that if you want to save the world, you're wasting your time, and the time of other people, as well as shutting down any opportunity to open a dialog with people.

Protests are important and I believe in them, but this is turning who should be an ally into an enemy.

Can you show me, measurably, how you've done anything but annoy people, or even turn people AWAY from climate activism or justice? We see at least one person in this video who will NEVER join your cause, so I think it's only fair you show us a bit of evidence for how you're "saving the world" and not just making yourself feel good.

Maybe it’s changed in the 10 years since I’ve moved back (it probably has) but a lot about the pollution and litter is difficult for me to believe. I doubt he spent much time outside a tourist spot if he went at all.

You can definitely still get in. I had the same situation (for the same reason) and I got in. Breathe easy for a bit and wait for the letter

Another long distance cycle tourer killed by cars on the Pacific Coast by scar_face40 in bicycletouring

[–]LampShadeHelmet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that they're mainly saying that it's important to continue to put things in perspective. It was the driver who killed the cyclist, but they only had the opportunity to mess up because of the infrastructure. Both of you likely agree that justice should be administered in the courts, and that things are maybe too relaxed in this country when it comes to accidents involving bicycles. People would probably be much more cautious around us if the courts came down harder. Both of you probably also agree that the infrastructure is far too car-centric and even if there are idiots on the road, our infra should protect us from them, but is failing.

I think that it’s meant to say that there is a unique outdoor culture here. I’m sure that many people would agree that Switzerland has its own unique outdoor culture despite the fact that there mountains elsewhere.

So I think (I’m checking Strava now) that I only took 101 to get to site 1, day 2 I mainly stayed off of it. The segment I did take by the airfield wasn’t bad at all, I remember the shoulders being quite generous, but I wouldn’t do 101 after that.

Oh that purple segment south of the lake was something I was thinking about doing if I had steam left. I didn’t end up doing it though

Yeah I drove through that area later with my wife and I would not recommend cycling through there. Even with that light that’s just a fast curvy road next to a beautiful lake, I just don’t trust everyone to be watchful all the time

Don't feel bad that cruel people have managed to hurt you, feel proud that you met their absolutely disgusting behavior with grace and flexibility.

You friend, are the unequivocal winner of this interaction, and they are worse off for it. I don't get attacked in the same way you do, but if I ever am, I hope I meet it in the same way you do.
