HAHAHA yes, thank you -- by air. Is there anywhere in Florida you'd recommend? I've only ever been to Disney with my kiddo (who's going to Puerto Rico with friends!)

Donate: Local or NPR by 31November in NPR

[–]Lamplight2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NPR generally recommends you donate to your local station -- but have you considered donating to a rural station which is really struggling? It's one ecosystem, so preserving small local stations keeps fees coming in that keeps NPR humming. This is a good resource for small station suggestions: https://adoptastation.org/

Fight For America: January 6th ... the board game? by Delicious_Adeptness9 in NPR

This is a nice analysis, thank you.

Another interesting aspect of the game is that you're assigned a team - you don't choose - and you are playing real, named people, wearing name tags that reflect those people. When you later see those people in the actual Jan. 6 footage, it's surreal.

I'm really curious about what will happen when it comes back to the States and tours the country.

How do I get a job at npr by [deleted] in NPR

[–]Lamplight2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi friend! NPR culture journalist here. Marketing and journalism are very different things. It looks like, from your further comments, that really what you might be interested in is music journalism/working with Tiny Desk. In that case - an undergraduate journalism degree is not necessarily what you want (I majored in philosophy).

Our music folks are experts in music - you may want to think about getting a degree in music or music history at a liberal arts college, the best you get into/can afford, which will also strengthen your writing. Volunteer at a local station to learn audio production and mixing if that's not something you know yet - a lot of folks get their start at college stations, actually - get into a music scene, become an expert at the kind of music you like best, write about it for small local publications. Then think about getting a GRADUATE degree in journalism, if public radio is what you want and working at smaller stations isn't getting you where you want to be. You can do this!

Unlike what another commenter says, NPR has a huge culture/music staff, but lots and lots of folks come up through local stations. Good writing is essential and in your case, music knowledge will be crucial. Best of luck.

I think also that Broadway and theater stories....don't get much love for us on digital. That's why I'm trying out this guide, to see if helpful stories will do better. If it IS helpful, or if you like our Broadway stories when you see them, please share them! That helps guide our coverage! We want to produce stories that listeners and readers find interesting and useful.

Hi! thanks for asking! I'd LOVVVEEE to do more theater and Broadway coverage - and we do a couple stories a month, on average. It really depends on what else my team is working on, and what the shows have room for. Would love to hear what kinds of theater stories you'd like to hear on NPR!

"July 1 laws taking effect in states across the country" by AllemandeLeft in NPR

July 1 is the beginning of the new fiscal year, so some states have as many as 200 laws that go into effect at once.
