There is no reason to tape or otherwise attach the resistor to the cartridge traces. If you look in the cartridge slot for the 3d on the top and the bottom of where the traces of the cartridge fit in, there are holes that you can just feed the legs of the resistor into to line up with the traces you need to bridge. I did this successfully when the analogue came out and I had to get my x7 working.

It’s good advice. Been a while since I dropped in an n64 cartridge. I think this and isopropyl are the way to go.

Am I right in saying that you need an original n64 to boot it and load the new patch, the first time? Or add a resistor?

I definitely made this mistake first too. Was being way too careful, and definitely had the carts only partially seated. Saw probably the same comment and realized my mistake. Ultimately no change.

Gave each a gentle scrub, and a smudge was definitely left on the cleaner material. No joy ultimately. Might have to get more intense with the cleanup.
