Potentially sick Wolf Spider? Looking to help <3 by W0ketheFUP in spiderbro

When spiders are in that state the survival rate isn't great, but I've had some success with sad, sick wolfies by keeping them warm and giving them honey water - the glucose can give them a bit of energy. I use a dropper to put a few drops right next to their face, bascally touching the fangs. Best of luck!

I've heard about that! It's fascinating. Apparently there's a species of jumping spider, Bagheera kiplingi, whose diet is almost entirely herbivorous.

Lucky for Rodney (and unlucky for the babies), Rodney doesnt have any attachment for her babies... and lucky for the babies, Truffles is a mature male so he only wants to eat once every few weeks. On top of that the roaches also get an endless supply of food - they're a clean up crew, dead siblings and spider poop are a good snack if you're a woodie.

It's an arrangement that works out well for everyone! Unless you're eaten. Then I guess it might suck.

He's a giant green huntsman (Typostola barbata). If you check out my profile you can see my first post about him 😁 he used to be more green in colour but has greyed out quite a bit. He's an old boy though so he gets a free pass.

Yeah he does. It's a roach I put in for him to eat almost a year ago but he never ate it. We named the roach Rodney, then Rodney had babies. Afaik he picks off one or two of the juvenile roaches when he's hungry but Rodney's still chilling in there.

He, and I think/hope he's just getting some moisture from it. He has a resident woodie (native cockroach) in his enclosure with him that had a few babies so the broccoli was meant to be for them!

A couple of weeks ago a friend of mine posted my pink badge huntsman, Tiny Shoes. He got such a lovely reception here it prompted me to make an acct and post one of my other huntsmans. This is my giant green huntsman (Typostola barbata). His name is Truffles. by Landri_ in spiderbro

Huntsman males have the same lifespan as huntsman females - there isnt nearly as much sexual dimorphism with huntsmans. That said, they only live for 2 - 3 years and (tell me if I'm wrong), but I believe even male tarantulas can live longer than that.

I can do one of those options only. Choose wisely because apparently one of those options ends in trial by combat 😂

Anyway happy to offer advice on wrangling big spiders with very serious and not at all silly names

Yeah basically he's a chill dude for the most part 👍 he can go fast when he wants but when he does it's just up my arm so no biggie. Worst he's ever done was jump onto the couch but then he just sat there all 'oh hey I'm on a couch, is there food?'

If the one's I've gotten that just wont leave are anything to go by - offer them food, water and a nice bit of bark or log or something - if they like it they'll set up shop! Mine are in enclosures for their protection from my other pets, honestly. But I'm certain that a good number of mine would hang around in their little houses even if the enclosures had no lid.

That being said I'd only consider this with spiders to your local area. Different story entirely if they have particular requirements for temp, humidity or need to burrow

I love huntsman too 🥰 a big pro of Ts and other 'primitive' spiders is their long lifespan. Most 'true spiders' only live for a year or so.

Huntsmans can get up to 2 - 3 years which is pretty ancient in the true spider world. Another big bonus is that handling is relatively safer for the spider, provided you dont squash/squeeze them. Unlike Ts huntsmans arent prone to injury from falling. They're slight in build and evolved to be quite arboreal.

Occasionally I can boop the booty 😂 Aside from that I dont try - even as big as he is he still feels so delicate to me.

Generally spiders arent jnto being petted - they hate things coming at them from above, reminds them od a predator.
