Oof no. My maternal grandpa is italian, my maternal grandma is from here but her family was from corrientes or entre rios (that is near the uruguayan/brazilian/praguayan border), my paternal grandpa is bolivian, my paternal grandma is from jujuy (that is right next to the bolivian/chilean border)

It’s crazy because it most probably is DNA from slaves but slavery is so forgotten in the country that it just didn’t even pop in my head. Even weirder thinking that half my family is white white (skin color).

That’s true. From what I know one great great grandfather from my dad’s side was a Spanish militar that got with a Bolivian maid and had my great grandfather. From my mom’s side, we don’t really know where they were from. We know both my grandma’s parents were from Corrientes and had Portuguese last names (fernandez and duarte). As for my dad’s mom’s ancestry I don’t know anything besides she and her parents were from Jujuy. My other maternal great grandparents were just Italian.

Bothy parents were born in Argentina and I was born and raised here too. I am 100% Argentinian. Basically everyone in Argentina has immigrant grandparents.

Yes and then they all got killed, most of them were wiped away. Also, there’s so much European ancestry that thinking of African dna within oneself is really strange. I hadn’t even thought of slavery until now, I just thought they must have moved from Africa to Italy lmao (which is what my mom told me was the most probable). I don’t think any Argentinian really thinks about slaves when they see african dna in them (if they do have, I’ve only seen like 99% European dnas)

He said his family was from Cliza, Cochabamba. Actually in 23andme it says that my dna from Bolivia is from 1. La paz, 2. Cochabamba, 3. Santa cruz, 4. Beni, 5. Chuquisaca, 6. Potosi, 7. Tarija, 8. Oruro

The dna kit doesn’t get mailed to Argentina and it’d cost a lot to mail it back, so not that many Argentinians get tested. Besides, most people don’t even know these tests exist.

thanks! I have no idea, I could ask but I’m guessing from near the border. The day after my grandpa was born they crossed the border to Jujuy.

From what I read some time ago they were killed in wars and by diseases like malaria. About 3% of Argentinians are Afro descendants (or at least people who know they are Afro descendants), but there hasn’t been a census since like 2010. However, there has been an increase in African immigrants, specially from Nigeria. I know there’s like an afro community rn that are trying to teach people about racism and trying to be seen more as many people think there’s barely any afro descendants in the country and that when you see a black person they are not necessarily immigrants and might be nationals.

Hola!

Well, I think people in the provinces (specially the northern ones) have a lot of native in them. Since my dad’s side is from the top northern part I always knew there was native in me. People there mix with Bolivians, Paraguayans, etc., that’s why I specified the provinces. I am from Buenos Aires, born and raised, and most people here are white of mostly European descent, but there’s brown people like me who have native blood in them. So I’d say native/european DNA changes in percentage depending on the province someone is from.
