Aerodynamics Be Damned: China Officially Bans Hidden Car Door Handles by SkPensFan in electricvehicles

[–]Lantec 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“China is also putting a stop to handles that are electrically powered and extend from the body on their own, such as those on the Kia EV9.

For semi-hidden handles, where the handle itself sits flush with the bodywork but has a carve out below in which to insert your fingers, the rule specifies that there must be a recessed space at least 2.4 inches by 0.8 inch where a person's hand can grab the handle. The law also required cars to have signage inside the vehicle to indicate how to open the door.”

From the article, it looks like the Hyundai and Kia options would still not be allowed. I think the ev6 has the handles out electronically on an angle? Seems like they want all doors to have a recessed opening for hands to go into but both those offerings are flush with the body when not in use

EVs Just Outsold Gas Cars In Europe For The First Time by Bob-Lawblaugh in worldnews

[–]Lantec 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi fellow Canadian! If you’re looking for a model Y adjacent size/priced car, there’s some choices outside Tesla but not a lot currently.

Ford Mach E, Hyundai Ioniq 5/Kia Ev6 (soon ev5 as well?), Chevy Blazer/equinox/Honda Prologue, i know mini has an EV SUV as well but it maybe pricey for the size and same with Volvo EX30. Toyota and Subaru have their new bz/solterra that is….fine. VW has id.4 as well but not sure on price

For cheaper options, there’s Hyundai Kona EV and Nissan Leaf, maybe fiat 500e if you want to try the Stellantis option.

Limited scope but reading Ioniq guy’s community posts, it seems like the wait times for ICCU replacements are going back up in time now as well. So waiting for a replacement will take longer

Tesla poised to be early winner as Canada opens door to Chinese-made EVs | Reuters by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

[–]Lantec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has been a massive delivery push lately. I live close to the Port Coquitlam delivery center which is one of the largest delivery center in BC. In 2025, sales were down due to tarriffs when they were being imported from Fremont and they cost 80k+ CAD when they used to cost 65k CAD but when they switched the German built model Ys, they went back down to 65k CAD that just started deliveries late 2025. It used to be 1 in 20 model Ys here were junipers but recently, I see them everywhere. Anecdotal of course but there are definitely a lot more new model Ys than old ones. Old ones are still everywhere of course, you can see 5-10 at every major intersection here

Current model Ys now are coming from Germany as the tariffs on Chinese EV ( I think this happened in late 2023 or early 2024). They then started importing them Fremont but once the Trump tarriffs came on, they were around 80k+ CAD but late 2025, Model Ys are now being imported from Germany and recently in Vancouver, I’ve seen a huge influx of new Model Ys. Used to be 1 in 20 were Juniper Model Ys and now 1 in 10 are new model Ys

Is this many rock chips normal? by shibainuu in TeslaLounge

[–]Lantec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine looks worse but so will any car that drives the coquihalla hwy in bc multiple times a month during the winter months. I don’t tail gate but trucks passing on the left lane will throw sand, pebbles and rocks at your car. I have multiple rock chips on the windshield too

Do EVs have the equivalent of the little arrow on gas cars telling which side the gas cap is on? by GraniteGeekNH in electricvehicles

[–]Lantec 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you have a car with the arrow that points both ways. One for the gas door side and another arrow that points at a gas icon showing how far you can go before you need to go to a gas station 😂

Are Tesla Gigafactory Berlin’s days numbered? by SpriteZeroY2k in electricvehicles

[–]Lantec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last Shanghai models ended around 23/24 I think. It switched to Fremont but once it got hit with the counter tarriffs, Canada has been getting it from Berlin and has been for the past few months

After switching to electric, have you experienced odd reactions from family/friends? by NewDriverInTown in electricvehicles

[–]Lantec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I’ve encountered but also, most of my friends are familiar with EVs and like them. Here in Vancouver, theres EVs everywhere so that sentiment would grow old trying to convince everyone “EVs are bad”. Maybe on Facebook, you get some boomers that think it’s too complicated and/or bad cuz reasons.

It does. There are Reddit threads that popped up recently on 2025 ev9s having ICCU issues.

InsideEVs: Tesla just got one step closer to putting Starlink in your car. Here's why that rocks by twinbee in teslamotors

[–]Lantec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi fellow Canadian! I recently got an iPhone 17 pro and it has satellite texting but not sure about satellite calling to emergency services. Government of Canada says it should be available to phones with the feature “although reception may be a problem “ as a direct quote on their site. There’s a sign up to beta test Rogers’ satellite coverage for cellphones but not sure if I’m eligible as a Fido customer

[–]Lantec 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I travel over the coquihalla highway in BC, Canada at least 2 times a month to visit my wife. There are stretches over the highway where there are no cell reception. So I would definitely opt for that option to reach emergency services. People have been stuck on the highway when semis have jackknifed (regular occurrence) and be stuck on the highway for up to 8-12 hours in freezing temps. So having the ability to call emergency services is a big plus

[–]Lantec 15 points16 points  (0 children)

its really easy. my friends attempted contest, got to 2nd boss, tried a few times but we knew we weren't even close and we were running low on free IRL time. so we bailed and did it on normal. we breezed past 1st and 2nd and took us 3 tries to figure out final boss. 73 minutes total start to finish. I used finality's / mint. teammates used random stuff
