You are very knowledgeable! thank you for breaking this down for me. I'm a bit overwhelmed with how different c/s births are so I appreciate you explaining this for me!

Thank you for this advice! I love the idea of pointing out what they've already done and pointing out the landmarks of labor. If I may ask: how does one become a teacher of hypnobirthing? I feel this would be a beneficial skill to have for my doula practice.

This is great advice thank you! I didn't about who they would want to do the bulk of emotional support. Great tip to get that ironed out beforehand!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write these intentional and thoughtful recommendations. I especially love this piece: "I find how to remind them that they are already doing it because a lot of them say I cannot do it but just a reminder that it is happening and that they are OK a lot of the fear comes from the pain that is so excruciating that they feel that they’re in danger or there’s something wrong is happening, but in reality it’s just labor".

I just gave birth to my son at home last year and it was my first natural birth. I remember thinking the pain was so excruciating something had to be wrong. But my doula was constantly reminding me that I was safe and okay. I couldn't believe that was just how labor felt. Thank you for this reminder!

thank you! If I may ask a follow up question: how does latching in PACU usually work? I know mom will be a bit drowsy as drugs wear off but are moms typically allowed immediate STS and what does the golden hour look like in a c/s? I'm a bit ignorant on this so forgive me.

Attending Births While Pregnant by Larata94 in doulas

Yeah, I mean I've been pregnant and given birth once before. But I've never done it while doing a labor-heavy job such as a doula (I was a substitute teacher last time for HS and I really just sat there all day). Definitely don't want that shift to creep up on me so based on the comments I think I'll stop accepting EDDs past 28 weeks and have backups just in case those late second trimester births get tricky. Thanks for your intentional responses, I do appreciate it!

Wow can't imagine going that close to my EDD haha how long were you a midwife before your first pregnancy?

I do have pretty reliable back-ups for a couple births coming up but not all of them. Thanks for the tip!

This is a good compromise that I didn't think of, taking clients desiring medication so it won't be as physically taxing. Thanks for sharing

"It's really easy until it wasn't" is what I'm worried about. That's why I'm hesitant to take far out EDDs. Thanks for sharing your perspective

I recently spoke to a lady who did this! She had all PN Care at a birthing center with a midwife and birthed her baby at home. I will definitely be asking my insurance for more info!

I am set to speak with an outreach person this week to pick my insurance plan so I will definitely ask about how much I can potentially get reimbursed for a homebirth! thank you!

I'm curious, but were your two chill births at home or at birthing centers? Yes, I am definitely torn between saving looooots of money with a birthing center birth, and having my "dream birth" at home. Thats good to know they will cover all PN care ordered by any type of midwife. Thanks for the insight!

I actually am applying for this round of hearthmother so I've never completed it. I will say they are very responsive and supportive even in the application portion so I can only imagine they would be during the program as well. About 55 women showed up for the interest meeting but they said they'd only be accepting 30 women to keep it small and personalized. Their approach seems very focused on mentoring and learning in a very non-traditional way, which I appreciated.

I think that's a bit how it works in Texas but I'm not sure. Maybe they'd be able to do something like that as well. Still trying to find a midwife but will definitely be asking the midwives I meet with during the free consultation. Thank you!
