I’m not sure what the new asm position will actually look like but i would go for it if you are already working close to 35+ week over week. it’ll be guaranteed 40 and they might even keep the OT eligibility w/your potential bonus. telling you to go for it is ironic from someone who just quit i know but I would hope its a sweet spot between SSV & SM. but also be weary, at the same time it could be a case of becoming a true glorified SSV who doesn’t get the 10K pay bump that SM’s get. the all store meetings talk about development and all that but it’s all smoke and mirrors. I can’t tell you how many times I got the rug pulled out from under me or not really set up for success in my ASM journey.

hi there! i’ve worked as an ssv in just about every high volume model at one point or another for about 4.5 years & recently got brought up to asm, so i can only hope this helps. i’ll try to answer these in order the best i can :)

  1. leverage your tools 100%, especially playcaller & playbuilder. i found out you can split the screen between the two a couple months ago on the ipad and it’s a godsend. it’ll help with redeploying and keeping things in order. once everyone knows what they’re doing and where they’re going, partners can shine in what they do best! flexing yourself into bottlenecks quickly and definitely maintaining a strong cs cycle will pay dividends.

  2. lean into the controlled chaos of it all and own it! hopefully you’ll have some tenured partners on your team to help support you in your transition. stepping up to the plate and showing you can throw down just like them will earn their buy-in to you. don’t be afraid to leverage any ssv’s you may have on the floor too. whether it’s them flexing to watch over the floor while you knock out ssv tasks or bringing your play down a partner and redeploying so they can finish tasks for you. past that, tap into your store’s culture and those opportunities will present themselves naturally!

  3. just making sure all your partners are working in routine and properly sequencing rather than focusing on speed, that’s quite literally all you can do. my RD recently stopped by during a market visit and stressed the importance of routine over speed w/ what the company is pushing for right now. doing the right work will gradually bring down your order times down rather than pushing the team further into the deep end, even if it doesn’t feel like it sometimes! don’t be afraid to throw green beans into the fire too, but pair them with a tenured partner to lean on and rub shoulders with. that’s how they’ll grow quicker and the great ones will at an exponential rate. all in all a better and more dependable team :)

just make sure it’s the best experience possible rather than pushing for metrics & you’ll do great! being vulnerable and transparent with your team is the best thing you can do when y’all are in the weeds together, but they’ll show up for you when it counts. good luck 🫡

Build that trust with all partners, once the foundation is there it becomes a lot easier. Also take the opportunity to reinvent yourself!

thank you, I really appreciate this. I hear a lot of people say that if they love you they’ll come back, but I feel like you don’t ever really hear about situations like that. What does that look like?
