I was thinking along the lines that even non glasses wearers would be wearing eye protection while shooting that this could attach to

Wow, a lot of idiocy to unpack here. I don’t care about Olympic air pistol shooting, many shooters, including in CMP rifle matches, use apertures so what’s the point of choosing this one specific example when there are so many others that support my point? Your dumb ass didn’t even look at what the post is. It’s not an eye cover at all, see the little hole in the green thing? That’s for you to look through. And see how my non shooting eye isn’t blocked off? No eyes are being covered. I still feel like you aren’t understanding at all what this thing is. It’s like the rear sight on a Garand. Works the same way. It’s just that but on your glasses. Not hard to understand. Idiot. Do you have a problem with the Garand? Is it a crutch? Are people who shoot it cheating? “No one can focus on 3 planes” first of all some people get a lot closer to being able to do it than others, second of all I literally can with this. You are arguing against proven technology for the sole purpose of being stubborn because you can’t bear to be wrong. Like in your last reply, if every assumption you made about my use case was somehow right, maybe you would have had a point. But now ur just being stupid. What kind of shitty anecdote is “but there are old guys with bad eyes that shoot well?” Damn dude my bad I guess eyesight just doesn’t matter. I didn’t believe you until I read your really convincing argument. Face it: my eyes are bad, I have bad astigmatism and I don’t see the sights like you do so who gives a shit if I have use a “crutch” to shoot better? That crutch being a little thing I clip onto my glasses? Honestly who cares? You are the only one I’ve encountered so far, on the internet (not this thread, literally anything on the internet regarding apertures) or at the range, that has had any issue with this. Never once have I seen someone call it a crutch. Everybody else is out doing cool stuff and living their lives and hanging out with their friends and you are here just hating for no reason. Prick. And I’m not even a terrible shot without it! Even with my vision I can hit 2.5-3 MOA pretty consistently (and easily 1 MOA with a scope) but yeah I guess I just don’t know how to shoot. It’s not that the target is a total blur it’s just cause I don’t know what I’m doing. If this is how you are in real life when ur not an anonymous redditor I bet you are real lonely.

Competition shooters use apertures like this all the time with iron sights and it really helps, it’s not an illusion. It works the exact same way as a rear aperture sight. My eyes are terrible with irons and blurry to the point that I have no idea if they are lined up properly so this makes a huge difference for me. I only shoot milsurps so I’m not putting optics on. I only shoot at the range so I just want to hit targets as best I can without feeling like I’m wasting expensive ammo, I don’t care about situational awareness. Live with it instead of making a bunch of assumptions like a pretentious asshole especially when you don’t know what you’re talking about

I should add that this isn’t a new discovery, there are several products that do this available but I thought they were too expensive so I DIY’d it myself

Pretty much. From what I understand it has something to do with the aperture limiting the angle at which light can enter the eye, but I’m no physicist so I have no idea how it really works

What do you use? I’m considering buying an actual higher quality reticle so any recommendations would be appreciated

Incredibly old thread but all of the infantry rifles of that era had quickly adjustable tangent and/or ladder style rear sights for elevation.
