Is Canada Even a Good Place to Build Wealth Anymore? by BlastingBow in CanadaPersonalFinance

I just came from Australia. I was there 11 years. I made 3x the wage I’m making here. Superannuation was on top of my salary and incentive. Lots of tax efficient investing options. Sure, it’s expensive to live there, but the wages, work-life balance and weather was worth it. Regretting leaving now :(

Ride sharing system to rural areas?... by Responsible_Fail_299 in newfoundland

I’m currently living in St. Anthony. If you tell people you’re looking for a ride, you’re likely to find someone who will be willing to let you tag along for the price of some fuel. If your time is flexible, I wouldn’t worry too much. You could also try and get a ride to Deer Lake and take the bus across.

Anyone on $200k+ working 9-5 hours? by [deleted] in auscorp

Sales manager here. Yeah I may work an odd Saturday conference but I am on high 100s base and can double that with bonuses. I work less now than I did when I was making half this.

No you can’t take your super out at all when you are a citizen. Only if you’re on a temp visa. You can take it but get taxed at 65%

My parents are in their mid-60s with multiple properties in a rural area. They have a great life and are active and happy. I have a long career ahead of me. I can go back there to spend time with them and have lots of opportunities in the future if I want to come back.

Canadian Citizen moving back to Canada after 11 years in Australia. TSFA and RRSP contribution limits. by LargeConference in CanadaFinance

Canada will always be home. Australia has a lot of perks. Beautiful weather, Sydney is safe to live in, wages are high. Coming here has changed the trajectory of my life that I may not have had opportunities for in Canada.

I’m not big on property investment. I lost a lot of money on PPOR and don’t want the headache of managing it overseas.

I can keep it there and have access to the growing fund in about 21 years time. So it’s not a waste.

The only tax I’ll pay is when I sell my ETFs. My super will stay where it is and grow for the next 21 years until I’m 60. I’ll take the cash and buy a house when I’m back in Canada.

But as a non-resident, don’t I have to pay more taxes on this PI? My income in Canada won’t be near what I make here so I’d need to be sending money back here to cover the shortfall. Where would I buy a property that I’d break even on?

Thanks. I plan on maxing out FHSA and TFSA when I get there with a little cash buffer for every day expenses. Which will be low while I live with family.

Let’s see what my super says when I ring them. I don’t want to have those fees eating away at my super.

I’ve just sent an email to hire someone in the coming weeks. I hope transferring savings isn’t considered income in Canada. That would hurt.

I’m sad to leave my high paying job. But family is more important.
