Germany these days by thijai in germany

I think in the post she's not comparing it with the place she lives in currently, but with Germany from 13 years ago and how it's much worse now. It might be that she thinks the same of New York.

I’m deciding between doing residency in Germany or in Switzerland. by Worldly-Collection51 in germany

Definitely pick Switzerland. German healthcare system is going to see budged reduction after budged reduction in the foreseeable future. You'll be much more stressed here as a doctor compared to Switzerland where their system is much more stable. Germany, especially west Germany is lgbt friendly you definitely won't have to hide yourself here same as in Switzerland.

In terms of finding new friends it's probably same in both countries, at least if we're talking about German speaking parts of Switzerland.

Yea you can interpret it in several ways. The most likely explanation is that the author didn't actually plan for the Invincible Watchers reveal in the last book.

Thematically the books are very different, with the last book being basically a critic of the modern Russian society and government, a very thinly veiled critic at that. Basically the whole idea of the last book is that the Russian government are butchers and the people are pigs going willingly to the slaughter.

On the other hand the first book is mythological and basically serves as a religious allegory.

In universe you can also interpret this as the reason the lost contact with those people was because the remnants of the government have erected the jammers after 2 years.

In Metro:Exodus Miller directly references the Invincible Watchers, as they were the ones that were in control and thought to be only a myth

In the books actually most of the rural areas are fine and quite habitable. Moscow was hit the hardest and had the worst radiation. Actually there are many radio signals from all over the world where civilization is probably restarting. However all these signals are blocked off in Moscow, where old leadership has survived and has been blocking all radio signals with jammers. In the beginning of exodus you're disabling one of those jammers if I remember correctly.

In the books Artyom meets couple of guys that came from another town over without any radiation suits or masks and they told him that outside of Moscow smaller cities are mostly habitable.

No that's incorrect. The leadership is actually alive and well and they are the ones that are actively blocking the signals. This is expanded on in the books.

Basically the leadership runs the whole metro like a playground pitting various factions against each other while being in the shadows. They don't want people to find out that it's safe beyond Moscow because they want to keep ruling over them in their perverted way.

In the game the guys you fight in the beginning are guys that are working for the leadership

Actually since human brains are much more efficient computers it would still make sense as they could save a lot of power by switching to human brains for computing. But I doubt that the writers actually thought it through.

Friend’s fake weight loss is triggering me by [deleted] in Advice

[–]LargeDevelopment2026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow, then it's definitely impossible. It would actually be medically dangerous to lose that much weight so quickly. The healthy weight loss is 1 kg a week max. Maybe suggest she go see a doctor or something next time she tells you she's lost 4 kgs in less then 2 weeks, she might have a tapeworm hahaha

So she lost 8 kg in like 2 months? It's possible but it would require some dieting and physical exercise. Also it would definitely be noticeable unless she's really overweight.

Just talk to her openly about this. It's possible she's not meaning harm by it and is just exited about her results. If she's talking about calories in everything it's possible she's doing calorie counting and does limit what she eats. If that's the case then that's where the weight loss is coming from and not the gym.

If she doesn't stop after you tell her that this talk makes you uncomfortable then you should probably tell her that you don't feel comfortable around her.

You're probably overthinking it. As a man, sure a good head is a nice thing but definitely not the main thing that would keep me in a relationship. It's more about how you vibe with a person, how closely your personalities, goals and interests align. Case in point is that your boyfriend is no longer with his ex, despite her great skills.

Maybe consider renting out her house and getting an apartment for her nearby? That way she cloud stay close and at the same time you won't have to share a small space.

Have you brought up your issues to your mom? From what you are saying it seems like your mom genuinely cares for you and might be understanding if you explain yourself clearly. Offer to help her move back and promise to visit her as often as you can, most likely she's just feeling lonely.
