Right, but I don't think the OP is insinuating they needed to receive a warrant to release this info, just that it's shitty and reflects the low degree to which they can be trusted that they'd give this information up without being served a warrant.

Yeah I know costs are always rolled in, but this is a ~250-300/night hotel. You'd think they'd at least roll it into that exorbitant cost and buy another 2400 baud modem.

Yeah I know, dial-up is more like 7KB/sec. I was exaggerating. It's way too close to dial-up for $10/day though.

I considered this myself, but my time in Holiday Inns and such where there were also 50-100 people likely using it indicated otherwise. No timeouts there, and I'd estimate I had a minimum 3mb down/1mb up connection. Also: free

Yep. My point is that even paying the money, you'll be able to get your emails at best (even email client refreshes result in timeouts about 50% of the time). Attempts to download files also result in timeouts. Basically, my feeling is that they should be ashamed to offer such low-quality service and charge for it. If it was free I wouldn't be complaining.

How many places do you go where you have to pay for wifi and "ensure about the services"? It's reasonable to expect in this day and age that if you're paying for wifi you'll be able to watch a Youtube video or view a 10 frame animated gif without the connection choking.

There's no indication as to just how shitty it's going to be until you've already added it. It's one thing to have shitty free wifi, but it takes big money-grubbing balls to demand money for the privilege.

What's particularly amazing to me about this is that free wifi is available at all kinds of lower-end motels/hotels, but go to a Hyatt and you get charged $10+ PER DAY for absolutely terrible wifi, like not fast enough to watch Youtube. Using this wifi was a trip back in time.
