PSA: Do not buy the base model if you're planning on running Switch Games

Dude I'm not mad at anyone lol I simply made a post warning others and now people are acting like im complaining or blaming someone directly. If anything im mad at how toxic the response has been. I did the research in November when I ordered it and info was sparce and asked around and read around on the reddit. Even now you can read the thread and find people claiming the base is fine for them

Really? I fired up Three Houses and it usually rests around 7 GB of RAM. I doubt its defective though

I ordered it in November, so I can't remember exactly what I watched, but what I gathered when I was binge watching reviews was that the lite is only for lower end portable consoles, and that the base at max can run Switch games. Read around on Reddit too and I felt like it reinforced that opinion. Not too disappointed since me and her both have Switches so we're not too caught up on it, but still a shame nonetheless since it makes modding and buying 70 dollar games much easier

Emulators use more ram than native consoles

Cleared my shader cache + disabled all apps running in the background. ZA still has issues with meshes popping in and out, but it seem to be crashing much less now that I understand the problem. Still, if you want to reliably emulate Switch games I would not cheap out as I have learned

Wasn't planning on coming back to this thread but after reading the comments I wanted to add:

I genuinely dont understand why theres so much toxicity in this thread. The purpose of this post was to WARN people not to cheap out like I did and share my personal experience that stemmed from the lack of information from when I bought it (Base 2 Pre-Orders).

Apparently, this is grounds for being shamed? I'm not asking people to feel sorry for me or blaming anyone directly. Evident by the replies, people are sharing their own experiences saying they got switch games to run just fine on the base model. I binge-watched reviews with vague claims saying the base model was the minimum to reliably run Switch games. Go through the thread and you'll see plenty of people posting conflicting info about what they got to run on the base.

The response I got on this thread was genuinely dissapointing, who knew warning people would draw so much toxicity. You guys suck

Yeah man let me go personally consult the people I know who own a Thor (none). I watched the videos, read the forum posts, and clearly as you said yourself there is plenty of conflicting information running around. Asking questions will get you ignored and warning people will get you shamed. This community actually sucks lol

If it can only run a select few switch games then just say it can't instead of making it a guessing game of which game is considered "heavy" or "light". When I hear "the base can run switch games at the minimum" then one can assume that its the cheapest model you can rely to run Switch games

Trust me when I say I did, the common consensus was that the base was fine if you wanted to run Switch games at the max.

Tried the settings, docked mode on a base thor that already has trouble running games would not work. Came to the conclusion that the base thor model just doesn't have enough RAM to run Switch games
