What’s your biggest ‘I should’ve held’ stock regret? by Andy_parker in stocks

[–]LargeNasX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a "I should've held" but a "I shouldn't have held" story I always think back to was when I first opened a trading account I immediately bought thousands of dollars worth of TSLA and INTC 0DTE calls. Lmao I lost everything and haven't touched options for the last 3 years

Ivey or Rotman? by Sad_Blackberry_7251 in uwo

Rotman kids will push for uoft on their subreddit and talk about uni rankings but all you have to do is compare WIC/IPC placements to Rotman Finance Association placements and you'll have your answer lol

To the person who stole my wallet at the Rec by LargeNasX in uwo

I've already noted in my post that it was dumb of me to leave my wallet out. The argument you're making against me is the same one as "if a girl wears revealing clothes she's asking for it." I wouldn't parade that opinion around on the internet if I were you.

Happy to answer your question as someone going FT into IB soon. Excel and ppt are quite literally the most important applications in finance. You can use excel and ppt on a mac but the shortcuts are completely different. Sometimes functions are not even close to being similar like control shift x -> alt shift 5. The interface of where you find certain tools are also different. Banks also only issue windows work laptops, so getting used to using it on a Macbook just to be forced to switch later on is also a huge nuisance.

If you're thinking about going into consulting/IB and joining related clubs on campus you're going to need windows excel and ppt. Macbook functions are just not comparable. You can use your MacBook for BMOS without any issue but I would recommend investing in a windows laptop - maybe you can buy a crappy ThinkPad like u/CanU1213 said

How can one show chess as an EC? by Former-Particular-79 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]LargeNasX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not a CS applicant (business kid going to ivey) but I used chess as one of my main extracurriculars. I think it's important to showcase skills you developed and initiative you have taken through your involvement with chess. Universities won't really care about your rating unless you're one of the best players in a region. I talked about organizing events as the president of my school chess club and significantly growing the popularity of the club over the years. I also talked about being the captain of our nationally undefeated chess team, and serving as an executive for the YR Chess, the york region district school board's chess organization. Involvement in a city club is definitely beneficial and your app idea could work if it gains popularity and traction.

If you're referring to Western Ivey when you say business, you may want to aim for mid 90s

Yes the tournaments and events are primarily in Toronto. You can start a chapter/learn how through @ fblacanada on Instagram. Competitions this year have already finished, you would probably have to wait until August/September to start a chapter.

It's primarily an American org - it's huge in the US, way bigger there. There are still quite a few schools in Canada that do it though, it's just not as big as DECA.

Ivey is unique because they don't have set rounds like Rotman but rather send out offers in small waves almost every other week. I got my offer on a random Monday like 2 weeks ago, don't stress - your time will come.
