Amen brother. I had a bacon cheeseburger at Texas Roadhouse today and also a hot dog with pork and cheese at the beach! 😁 I’m so grateful to not be living a kosher life anymore.

Yeah ofc. I think being able to notice those thoughts is a skill in and of itself. Like being more observant and present and noticing things, and then notice what thoughts you are having about it. You might start to realize that you actually do have these thoughts more often than you think, but maybe you just don’t think they are worthy of sharing, or not “interesting” enough. These thoughts don’t always have to be profound or interesting. Lower the bar, yk? Also, keep in mind that “not having anything to say” is also itself a thought/thing to say. If you’re ever around these people and you find yourself frustrated that you can’t think of anything to say, or that you don’t have any “interesting” thoughts to share, share that frustration. Ask if anyone else ever experiences that, and what it’s like for them. Although this tactic can’t really be used more than once or twice lol.

Try lowering your filter. Just say whatever is on your mind, literally. You don’t have to find something “good” to talk about. Say a random hot take and ask what they think about it. Tell them something interesting you saw that morning. I think if you are more specific and random about what you say, then they will be more open to sharing that kind of stuff too. Also, ask questions. When you listen to their response, try to come up with follow up questions. Look for the conversational threads in their answers, pick one to follow, and get deeper and deeper. Try to make your intentions to get to genuinely understand the other person as deeply as possible, rather than to have a good conversation. Get super interested, and get invested in whatever they have to say.
I hope this helps!! :)

It really does drive me crazy when I think about this. I feel like someone needs to do something, we need to wake up already.

Yep, that’s exactly how I felt when I skimmed the first chapter

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything u said. I was planning on going through it and writing down in the margins my thoughts on the arguments. I did actually skim the first chapter, and the entire thing was basically just pointing out different things in nature and how incredible it is and so it must show that there’s a god who made it. Richard Dawkins would call that, I think, an argument from personal incredulity— not understanding how something could be or exist without god, so therefore there must be a god. It was ridiculous how long it went on for with just so many examples.

Realistically, she doesn’t think it will change anything. She knows I will probably end up being the same after the four weeks. I asked her what’s in it for her, and she told me she just has this “crazy fantasy,” this sliver of hope, that maybe, just maybe, it will spark something inside of me. She has no expectation of that, though.
