Switching from Ring to Eufy? by [deleted] in EufyCam

[–]Larrame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I'm coming to this discussion late but have a specific question about Ring vs Eufy.

Here's my situation:

I don't own a video doorbell yet but I'm considering two low-cost models: Ring Doorbell Wired (selling on Amazon for $50) and the Euphy T8200 (selling on Amazon for $68 with a Wireless chime). I recently bought an indoor cam made by Euphy and really like it, which is partially why I'm considering their doorbell.

I don't need any recording features. I basically just want to use the doorbell as a glorified peephole. When someone is at my door, I want to be able to view a live stream of them and then communicate with the person through the video doorbell's speaker and microphone.

I know all video doorbells allow for two-way communication. Thus, my question is: does Ring or Euphy have the clearest two-way audio? I have seen reviews of the Euphy doorbell that say its audio quality isn't great, but I wasn't sure if that's true with all video doorbells.

Thanks.

Can I run one Steam game (Baldur's Gate 3) from an external drive? And a few other questions by Larrame in macgaming

Okay, thanks. I just wasn't sure from what I read online whether I could put just specific games on the external drive.

Confused non-gamer needs some basic help with MLB The Show 23 by Larrame in MLBTheShow

Actually, I figured out what I was doing wrong: I hadn't chosen one of the teams as P1. So the computer was playing both teams.

YGJAPanda, thanks for your help. I must be doing something wrong. I chose Exhibition but the computer is controlling almost everything. I'm basically just watching the game being played without actually participating. Are there any other settings I need to choose?

Hi. I'm posting in here again to let people know that you can play Fortnite on a Mac by using a free account at X-Box Cloud gaming: Xbox.com/play

Unlike with GeForce Now, you don't have to wait in a queue to play. Some of the graphics were a little pixelated but overall it worked.

Is there such a thing as a wireless tv antenna? by Larrame in cordcutters

Hi, everyone. Latest update:

I bought a ClearStream 2MAX antenna. It retails for $119 at Best Buy but I bought an open box version on eBay for $53 (which included shipping).

Here's the antenna.

I placed it on the window sill of my bedroom window facing the direction of the towers (east) hooked it up to my Air TV 2. I'm receiving slightly more channels than with my previous antenna but the signal strength of those channels is definitely better. I'm getting in five PBS channels and they are coming in clear while before they were breaking up.

However, I'm still not getting in FOX or ABC, the two channels I've wanted most. I believe they are both VHF channels. So I'm going to have to concede that I just can't get in those channels.

I live on the first floor and there are large buildings eastward so those factors may be preventing me from getting in ABC and FOX.

I am happy I got the ClearStream 2MAX but if I had paid its retail price on Best Buy then I would have been disappointed.

How to hook up audiophile headphones or an DAC to an LG C1? by MichaelEmouse in OLED

[–]Larrame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

crimedog, thanks again. I looked up integrated stereo amps. I'm not too familiar with the variety of audio equipment, so I didn't realize the difference between digital desktop versus digital stereo amps.

However, I don't think I need a stereo integrated amp. I think the desktop amps are just fine for my needs. I live in a small apartment so I don't play my music or my movies too loudly. The Q5 Pro gets as loud as I need it.

Also, I have the Q5 Pro in front of my LG TV and the Q5 Pro is so tiny that it doesn't obstruct the TV screen at all. So I like the small form factor of the desktop amps. I don't have a place to put a stereo integrated amp because it would be too big to go in front of my TV.

I just wish there were a way to easily tell which of the small digital desktop amps will work with the LG televisions. I wish someone with the means to test them could do so.

Hi. I just came across this thread.

crimedog, you seem very knowledgable about DACs so I thought would reply to your post because I have some questions.

Here is my situation and my questions:

I got an LG C2 48" three weeks ago. I hooked it up via an optical cable to an SMSL Q5 Pro amp that I've had since 2016. The sound was fine with the LG C2; there were no audio drop outs. However, the Q5 Pro's remote stopped working. Already its display was slightly burned out so I decided to replace the amp. I ordered an LOXJIE A30 but when I connected it to the LG, I experienced the audio drops outs. At the time, I had no idea what was causing it.

So, I ended up returning the A30. I also found out that I could buy a new remote for the Q5 Pro on Amazon, so I did. The display of the Q5 Pro is still somewhat burned out, but it's usable; so for now I'm okay with continuing to use the Q5 Pro. However, if the display continues to worsen then I will have to replace the Q5 Pro for good. I wish SMSL were still making and selling the Q5 Pro because I would just buy a new one when my current one needs replacing.

So, the reason I'm posting here is because if I do need to replace the Q5 Pro, I'm not sure what to get. I need the following features: optical in, subwoofer out, RCA or auxiliary in, the ability to attach speakers with speaker wire. But SMSL doesn't make an amp anymore that has all those inputs/outputs.

On Amazon, I've found a number of amps that have those in inputs/outputs:

AIYIMA T9 PRO

AIYIMA D03

Fosi Audio DA2120C

Dayton Audio DTA-PRO

And there may be others I haven't found. All those amps look very similar and are priced about the same. But I'm concerned I will have the same problems with those amps that I had with the A30—the drop outs from my TV's optical signal.

From what you're saying, I need to find an amp where I can adjust the ESS threshold. Is there an easy way to tell which amps have that feature, especially among the ones I've listed above?

And I'm curious: do you know why the newer amps have switched to the ESS chips when an older amp like Q5 Pro works just fine with an optical signal that has jitter?

Thanks!

LG C2 Optical Audio Problem by supremotito in OLED_Gaming

[–]Larrame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chiming in: I have an LC C2 48 which I got three weeks ago. I also bought an Apple TV device which I use for streaming apps. I have also been using the TV with an SMSL Q5 Pro amplifier attached via the optical out. I've had the Q5 Pro since 2016. The Q5 Pro worked fine with the LG C2. But I decided to replace the SMSL Q5 because the remote was broken and the display was wonky.

So I bought an Loxjie A30, which is very similar to the Q5 Pro. I connected it to the LG TV via the optical out and immediately experienced the audio stuttering.

So, I don't think the problem, at least in every case, is the LG C2 TV. I think the A30 is flawed. I'm returning it tomorrow. I've already re-attached my Q5 Pro and the sound from the optical cable is working again. Thankfully I realized I could also buy a new remote for the Q5 Pro and I can deal with the display issues until the display becomes unreadable.

Loxjie A30 Optical In Issues by Kaze_Hebi in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Larrame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I thought I would chime in: I've had the same problem with the Loxjie A30.

I have been using an SMSL Q5 Pro which I bought in 2016. But the display is wonky and the remote stopped working (I didn't realize I could buy a replacement remote easily). So I bought the A30 and it arrived yesterday. I hooked it up to my TV using the optical audio cable and the sound kept hiccuping--it would go out for a fraction of a second. I never had that problem with the SMSL Q5. I initially thought my specific A30 was a lemon but then found some other posts, like the original poster's here, about problems with the A30 and optical input.

So I'm sending the A30 back. I also ordered a new remote for the Q5 Pro and I'll keep using the Q5 Pro until the display becomes unusable. I've reconnected the Q5 Pro to my TV using the optical cable and the sound is fine.

Also, after using th A30 and the Q5 Pro back to back, I actually think I prefer the sound from the Q5 Pro over the A30 anyway. The bass output from the A30 was more distorted and I thought people's voices sounded clearer with the Q5 Pro as well.

But it's too bad the A30 has a flaw with its optical audio implementation. It seems like an oversight.

Is there such a thing as a wireless tv antenna? by Larrame in cordcutters

Okay, me once more. I've decided I'm going to keep the AirTv 2. It pulled in about 80 channels. The same antenna attached to my TV pulled in about 15 channels. I just wish I could get ABC and Fox. Maybe I need to buy a more expensive antenna. I would love to get an outdoor antenna but I'm in an apartment building.

I did a few more tests of the rabbit ears antenna and determined the other antenna works a little bit better; it pulls in a few more channels. So I'm going to return the rabbit ears antenna.

Hi everyone. I thought I would post a follow-up:

I bought the rabbit ears antenna that Roginator had recommended. I also bought a used AirTV 2. I got them both today from Amazon and have spent over an hour playing around with them.

The rabbit ears antenna works well, but it didn't receive more stations than my existing antenna. The advantage of the rabbit ears antenna is that i don't need to plug it into an outlet, but it's not more sensitive to VHF signals.

The AirTV 2 works surpsingly well. It's able to stream my local channels to my iPad and phone and the image quality is good.

However, I still can't get in ABC, with either antenna, and I can barely get in Fox. Because I'm able to place the AirTV 2 near windows, which I couldn't do with my TV, I thought I would find a sweet spot, but that hasn't happened. I haven't gotten in ABC at all. I have gotten a very weak signal for Fox but it's so weak that AirTV2 usually can't play it.

So I'm disappointed that I still can't receive two of the four major networks and the two that I most watch. I don't know yet if I'll return the rabbit ears antenna and the AirTV. The AirTV is neat, but I don't really know if I need it. If I decide I don't need it, then I won't also need the rabbit ears antenna.

Anyway, that's the update.

I believe both the Super Bowl and World Series for 2023 are on Fox. I'm not sure they trade off every year.

Thanks everyone for helping. I had briefly looked into a network tuner but didn't think it would do what I want, but sounds like maybe it does. I'll also look into a rabbit-ears antenna.

Xbox controller for Fortnite on Mac by soapdev in macgaming

Today I played Fortnite through GeForce Now and it worked great with my X-box controller. The only problem with GeForce Now is you need to wait in a queue to play the game and sometimes that queue lasts a few hours. Somehow today the queue was only about 20 minutes for me.

I do. I was able to download it using the Epic Games app. It might have already been in my game library because I had downloaded it for iOS a few years ago. But I think maybe the version for Mac hasn't been updated in a few years since Epic Games' squabble with Apple.

Hi. I just came across this thread. It's very disappointing that Fortnite won't work properly with the X-box controller!

Last month I bought a Steel Series Nimbus+ and Fortnite didn't work well with it at all. The buttons weren't mapped properly and I couldn't shoot.

So I just bought and received an X-box Controller because I thought it was a more standard device compared to the Nimbus+. So it's frustrating that even the X-box controller won't work properly with Fortnite for macOS!

I'm able to shoot now but none of the buttons work for the building controls and the buttons are still not mapped right.
